This is common sense / knowledge. Your subversive ideas and searches are being stored for future reference, which will be used against you in a court of law. Depending on the nature of the content, you could get immediate or deferred attention.

Dont believe me?

I've mentioned before back around 2007 or so I did a search for "how to rob a bank" and visited a few sites (none of which provided useful information other than to garner adsense hits). The NEXT MORNING as I opened the front door to leave for work there was someone sitting in an new, unmarked Ford Crown Vic facing the front door.

He was white, in is 40s, clean shaven, wearing a Texas Rangers style hat, white dress shirt, dark tie and sunglasses. He appeared to be looking in all directions except directly at me while taking written notes.

I glanced at him long enough to make a mental note, then headed for the car to leave for work. He did not follow. I have never seen him or that car again.

Your tax dollars at work.

Update 6/5/2013: Judge orders Google to Hand over all Data to FBI...NOW!

http://www.nbcnews.com/technology/judge-orders-google-turn-over-data-fbi-6C10157219

A federal judge has ruled that Google Inc. must comply with the FBI's warrantless demands for customer data, rejecting the company's argument that the government's practice of issuing so-called national security letters to telecommunication companies, Internet service providers, banks and others was unconstitutional and unnecessary.FBI counter-terrorism agents began issuing the secret letters, which don't require a judge's approval, after Congress passed the USA Patriot Act in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

The letters are used to collect unlimited kinds of sensitive, private information, such as financial and phone records and have prompted complaints of government privacy violations in the name of national security. Many of Google's services, including its dominant search engine and the popular Gmail application, have become daily habits for millions of people.
In a ruling written May 20 and obtained Friday, U.S. District Court Judge Susan Illston ordered Google to comply with the FBI's demands.
Updated: 05/24/13 FBI wants backdoor to all encrypted internet traffic:

http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_t..._into_online_communications_could_create.html

Recently, the FBI has been attacking the “going dark” problem—that is, its inability to read all electronic communications—from both legal and technological angles. It wants to be able to fine communications companies for refusing to comply with subpoena requests for the content of customers’ emails and chats. It’s also trying to create ways of decrypting any communication sent via a Web service, like Gmail messages Facebook chats, or Twitter direct messages. It believes it can work with companies to build secure methods for lawfully intercepting communications on the Web. The FBI has subpoenas, warrants, and National Security Letters to get email; pen registers, traditional wiretaps, and cellphone eavesdropping tools to get telephone data; and all of the powers set forth in the original CALEA to monitor most Internet communications.

That too is common knowledge. It is sad however that we let it happen. Back in the old days the government needed a warrant. Now in the interest of national security, we must know your thoughts, where you are and what you are doing at all times.

Sorry. :'(

Here is the best part, they don't need special agencies to do it anymore they simply call up Google or Microsoft for whatever info they need.

I'm not saying this alone is proof of anything, but as soon as I started going on a bunch of conspiracy theory websites my parents house phone line started making all kinds of weird pops/clicks/echoes and it would randomly ring with static in the background. For extra crazy points, I noticed a bunch of helicopters appeared to start flying over the house as well.

Next time, make your tinfoil hat in the shape of a Texas Rangers style hat. It makes you invisible to them.

Im not encouraging anyone to do make any subversive searches just to see what happens. Common sense should tell you not to search for "how to make a pressure cooker bomb". You should already know you are going on a list or might get a visit like I did 6 years ago.

I hear you Zane. Most people, like myself, dont care however since we are all just tying to earn a living and live our lives. So we dont mind what really happens.

It just knowing that your electronic thoughts are no longer your own is what is unsettling. :ninja:

Your ISP sees all the text and data that comes back to your computer unless you are using https pages at all times along with dns encryption / vpn.

Of course your text is monitored by software for sensitive information. It makes me laugh that people do not know this.

Just writing that has alerted the NSA.

But, now I quoted you so they're going to go after me too. Thanks.

As long as they don't know the velocity and direction of my electrons everything will be all right!

So why am I rocking back and forth in the fetal position?:whiste:

My eyes were opened when the FBI hacked General Petraeus' Gmail account without a warrant or even evidence of a crime taking place. If they can do that to the director of the CIA, then the rest of us are small potatos.

You don't need to flatter yourself to get the attention of an algorithm. They might be panning for gold, but they're picking up all the mud.
there aren't enough cops in the world to pay house calls to every moron searching for something questionable

https://www.eff.org.

There are - what? - a couple of billion people, anyway, on the Internet? How many searches for "pressure cooker bomb" do you think were made in the days and weeks after the attack? Even "how to make a pressure cooker bomb?" A few hundred million?

http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=how to make a pressure cooker bomb

Looks like everyone but the U.S. already knew how to make them.

For that matter, why is searching for "how to make a pressure cooker bomb" any more damning than posting the words "how to make a pressure cooker bomb" on a web forum?

I've just posted that text three or four times in this message. Google's spider will be passing by momentarily. I'll let you guys know if anyone shows up out front.
