Yeah, because natural-born Canadians are allowed to run for the US presidency.

Again;Why is Obama in there?

The Supreme Court has never decisively defined the term "natural born citizen." It's generally taken to mean someone who was born a US citizen, which was the case for Cruz since his mother is an American citizen. Right now he's a dual citizen, and he's said he intends to resign his Canadian citizenship. There is no legal precedent saying he couldn't run. That's why even if Obama hadn't been born in Hawaii, which he was, he would STILL have been eligible to run for President since his mother was a citizen.

Oh my god, you're a birther? Obama was undeniably born in the US.

Right, but as we learned in 2008 people throw the baby out with the bathwater. They blamed all Republicans for the perceived ills of Bush.

Hillary will run as a Clinton. People long for the prosperity of the Clinton years. Plus, she is an expert on health reform, so she can make political hay out of improving on Obamacare.

So disappointing.. Christie totally got caught with foot in mouth. No way he wins the Republican nomination now. Hes fucked

nah.

in the real world, unless there's undeniable evidence proving that he lied about this, he's going to fire a couple people and everyone will probably forget about this story by the end of winter.

don't get me wrong, he's still not going to win the Republican nomination, but this scandal isn't even the most damning thing he's done this week in that regard.

scandals that "tend to reinforce" a preconceived notion by the public or the media tend to "stick" more than something out of the blue or inconsistent with people's notions. A loud mouth NJ politician bullying his political opponents because they dared to oppose him conforms to Chris Christie's demeanor and personality. He is a bully so stories about him being a bully will only reinforce this.

LOL. Just when you thought all the birthers were gone.

If you actually believe that you are one of the stupidest people on earth.

Christie denies involvement.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/201...ristie-office-involved-in-controversial-lane/

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, responding for the first time to newly published emails that indicate a top aide was involved in controversial lane closures last year that snarled traffic, said Wednesday the intervention was "unsanctioned" and "unacceptable" -- and claimed he would hold people "responsible."

The governor released a brief written statement late Wednesday, following a report in The New York Times detailing emails involving his deputy chief of staff, Bridget Anne Kelly. They pertained to a bizarre incident in September, when lanes at the George Washington Bridge from Fort Lee, N.J., were closed for four days. Christie faced accusations that the lanes were blocked in retaliation over Mayor Mark Sokolich's refusal to endorse him for re-election last November.

But Christie maintained Wednesday that he was "misled" and had no knowledge of his staff's apparent involvement.

"What I've seen today for the first time is unacceptable," Christie said. "I am outraged and deeply saddened to learn that not only was I misled by a member of my staff, but this completely inappropriate and unsanctioned conduct was made without my knowledge. One thing is clear: this type of behavior is unacceptable and I will not tolerate it because the people of New Jersey deserve better. This behavior is not representative of me or my Administration in any way, and people will be held responsible for their actions."

The report Wednesday fueled Democratic accusations that the closures were political retribution against the local mayor. The local scandal threatens to become a national issue for Christie as he weighs a possible presidential run in 2016.

The Democratic National Committee responded to Christie's statement by saying it neither explains or apologizes for the scandal, and called on Christie to give the public more than "his customary bluster and deflection."

"It’s time that the so-called ‘straight talking’ governor takes some of his own advice – and he can do that by cooperating with all investigations surrounding the politically-motivated lane closures and ensuring his staff and associates do the same," a DNC spokesman said.

The New York Times reported Wednesday that emails show his deputy chief of staff suggested closures to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey two weeks before the incident.

"Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee," she wrote to Christie confidant David Wildstein, according to the Times. At the time, Wildstein was on the Port Authority; he has since resigned.

The George Washington Bridge, which connects New Jersey and New York City, is one of the most heavily traveled commuter routes in the country, handling nearly 300,000 vehicles a day. The closures in September caused massive gridlock, leaving commuters stuck in traffic for hours.

It was the Port Authority that ordered the closures, claiming they were part of a traffic study.

The email messages also reportedly show New Jersey officials reacting after the closings were reversed.

"The New York side gave Fort Lee back all three lanes this morning. We are appropriately going nuts," Wildstein reportedly wrote to Kelly. "[Port Authority Chairman David] Samson helping us to retaliate."

Rep. Bill Pascrell, D-N.J., said Wednesday that his constituents "were put in jeopardy because of some jerk who made a decision."

Though Christie denies involvement, Democrats have tried to use the incident to undercut his image as a bipartisan problem-solver -- amid expectations that he may run for president in 2016.

In December, Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., formally asked the Port Authority to "answer for" the incident.

"Unwarranted lane closures with no public notice can have serious ramifications on interstate commerce and safety in the region," he said at the time. "The gravity of this situation demands a comprehensive investigation."

Days earlier, the Democratic National Committee released a video on the traffic jam, asking whether it was "Chris Christie's political payback?"

one could make an image of a bully work to their benefit, though.

hell, I'd love it if Obama bullied Congress like LBJ instead of idly complaining about them. he'd probably see a more productive Congress if someone was around to give them a collective wedgie.

You do realize who takes his place if you somehow get Obama kicked out of office?

Are you kidding? Did you read the NY Times article? This is how he operates. Endorsements from Democratic mayors was important to his image as a 'post-partisan' or 'non-partisan' leader. He leaned on those mayors to get those endorsements, this is how you lean.

This is not some inexplicable mistake, it's his SOP. That's why the scandal surfaced before these damning emails, because he has a reputation for this kind of bullshit, and it looked suspicious.
I suppose, but it sure seems pointless. One small-town Democrat mayor endorsement more or less surely wouldn't make or break him.

well, allegedly.

Obama's successfully pulled off the "I have no knowledge of what anyone under me in the chain of command is doing" defense, maybe Christie will just blame it on a rogue operator and fire everyone with a direct/undeniable link.

edit: I spoke too soon... he's definitely doing the Obama. he released an official statement denying any knowledge --
Of course, but it goes back to Obama and the IRS scandal. Maybe he didn't order it, but his people certainly felt comfortable doing it.

What else is he going to do?

Get the officials involved investigated, we'll see what song they'll sing about Christie.
If anyone died in an ambulance because of the traffic, get some manslaughter charges going.

Can you tell me what scandal you're talking about because the only scandal was the fact that darrell Issa was hiding the fact that the IRS was also targeting Occupy groups as well. It turned out he was hiding the documents in order to make it look like only Tea Party groups were being targeted. The IRS scandal was manufactured. And even if it was true the people involved are so far below Obama's level it's stupid to compare this to Christie's scandal.

Of course he would!

I've heard but not seen the reporting myself that Christie personally responded to an IM (or email or something), that said, "I got it", in response to a message that said something to the effect, "time for some traffic issues".

Is that true? Was the response from Christie himself or was it from his admin?

A top aide to Gov. Chris Christie told an executive at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey it was "time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee" before the authority closed lanes onto the George Washington Bridge in September, triggering a week of massive traffic jams, documents show.

The aide, Bridget Anne Kelly, sent the email, dated Aug. 13, to David Wildstein, a political ally of the governor who was the authority's director of interstate capital projects.

Mr. Wildstein replied: "Got it."

EMS responses delayed by GWB lane closures in Fort Lee
Emergency responders were delayed in attending to four medical situations – including one in which a 91-year-old woman lay unconscious – due to traffic gridlock caused by unannounced closures of access lanes to the George Washington Bridge, according to the head of the borough’s EMS department. The woman later died, borough records show.
Although, you can't say that the outcome could've been any different.. and she was a 91 yr old lady.

Y'all complaining when some bridges collapse, yet when Obama's stimulus money is used in NJ it suddenly become a Republican conspiracy to repair a bridge! :colbert: 😉
