w/ an impending ban, how is that stupid? these gun shops need to make $$ while they can since they will be out of biz after the next ban..... also as supply dries up, prices will go up too. many types of ammo is already up 10% from just a week ago...

Don't gun enthusiasts say guns are for self defense? What are they defending against if not crime?

Guns will be the standard for barter if the green collapses. Trading green for guns in this economic enviroment is a wise move.

how does this belong under crime? just people buying guns at a gun store 100% legally. what a joke.

I'm not sure that's where I would have put it, but then again, there is no "gun" category...so I'm not sure what would be a better choice, it has to go SOMEWHERE. You could argue for "politics", I suppose, except it's not really that either.

There is NO evidence of "an impending ban", that's what's kind of stupid here.

Buying Guns for a worsening Economy is stupid. That money is far more useful elsewhere, like Paying off Debt, upgrading one's Education/Training, Cash Reserves in case one loses their Job, stocking up on Food/Supplies, and other things.

That said, Gun Buying doesn't belong in the "Crime" section of the News. Unless the buying is somehow Illegal or if its' a response to escalating Crime.

it was in the dnc pamphlet w/ their outlook/plans.....

Firearms
We recognize that the right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans? Second Amendment right to own and use firearms. We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation, but we know that what works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne. We can work together to enact and enforce commonsense laws and improvements ? like closing the gun show loophole, improving our background check system, and reinstating the assault weapons ban, so that guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists or criminals. Acting responsibly and with respect for differing views on this issue, we can both protect the constitutional right to bear arms and keep our communities and our children safe.

i will find a link to the pdf of the pamphlet....

edit - here is a link to the draft, i can't find the final one....but will

w/ an impending ban...

This is your opinion. This is not based on facts until it actually happens. More power to the people who feel compelled to stock up.

Not saying that I am a psychic, but given the dems position on this in the past I could see why people are concerned....it would be the same for me if the new administration had a thing against swiss watches, you'd bet your ass I'd be buying the ones I wanted....sure it might not happen, but chances are these people would have purchased the guns eventually so why take the chance of waiting for it to happen

Don't be so naive.

HR 1022 and HR 6257 are both still in committee.

This doesn't count as evidence?

Because Obama won't ban anything that you can buy right now, right? That would be totally out of character for him to restrict gun rights.

Gun sales were going up way before the elections. They've been going up since the economy has been going down.

My guess would be the "Business" section, considering the point of the article is a sudden increase in retail sales... but hey, I don't expect much tact, common sense, or neutrality from any of our mainstream media outlets, especially CNN or FOX. ;)

I agree about the lack of common sense in the media sometimes, but I really think people are reading too much into the choice of section for this story.

Thinking that Obama is going to "grab your guns" should be a crime. Or more appropriately, filed under "paranoid stupidity." CNN probably doesn't have a section of their site for that, so "crime" will have to do.

I am not worried about Obama trying to take my guns. But, some things that are legal to buy now would be banned for sale if the assault weapons ban is reinstated. If a 30 rd. magizine is legal to buy now, but if it is an item on the ban that Obama wants to reinstate, and I want one, doesn't it make sense to buy it now instead of seeing if it is or is not legal a year from now?

They certainly have a "Business" section.

Do you honestly believe that there's no chance in hell for another Assault Weapons Ban given a Democrat-controlled government? I believe that it's a perfectly logical prediction and the surge in gun sales doesn't surprise me in the least.
