Check engine light had been on in my wife's 97 Infiniti i30. I pulled the codes, it was reporting a bad EGT sensor (Exhasut gas temp). I replaced it, same code.

My wife took it to Inifiniti today.. 2 of the 3 o2 sensors were bad, the two in the exhaust manifolds. The rear sensor was fine.

Price for them to fix it? $440.00. The damn sensor cost 110.00 each! And that's from www.carparts.com!

o2 sensor for either of my cars, 1 needed @ 20.00 each for Bosch.

Damn imports.. :|

I had some sensors go bad, drove around for 3 days after the light came on b/c I thought it was saying a light was out (mis read themanual) anyways my car was under warranty to it was free, that is nuts that such a lil part is so expensive.

Yes, it is used in imports, but GM uses many Bosch parts (relays, o2, etc) in their cars.

My issue is with the huge delta in parts cost.

The price difference isn't solely because one is a japanese car. The $20 o2 sensor is going to be a 1 wire sensor, that $110 sensor is probably a 4 wire. So compare a part that is 4 times as complex, add the quality difference between OEM and Bosch ( <--- junk ) and then buy it from a dealer instead of autozone and $110 doesn't sound so expensive. You think you can buy a HEGO for a '97 ford for $20? no. You think you can buy a HO2S for a '97 GM for $20? no. Those are going to be $80 to $100 also. Yestertech is always cheap....just think what you can buy a PII 350 for, can it do what your PIV can do? no. That's the nature of technology.

I s#!t a brick when my Isuzu dealership told me my driver side mirror (and casing) would cost $300 for the part alone. Had to get it done though, the car is in mint condition otherwise after 7 years.

Yeah. BOSCH is really crap. This is why BOSCH is OEM for GM, VW, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, and Porsche among others.

For someone who seems to know about 1-wire vs. 4-wire O2 sensors you don't know jack about one of the most respected brands in automotive electronics and accessories.

OE (BOSCH) O2 sensor for 1997 Ford Taurus GL: $77.28

OE (NGK) O2 sensor for 1997 Chevy Lumina: $60.63

Substantially less than the $110 for the OE (NGK) O2 sensor for the Infiniti.

that sucks dude... I'll be needing to replace the hot O2's on mine in abit, (one bummer about forced induction, kills those things in about 60K) I'm gonna say screw it to the Cold's tho I'm gonna see about some simulators for them Friggin ODB2 crap :|

Both are still overpriced. The labor and materials is probably something around 1-4 bucks. Some of the equipment I work on use air sensors (vacuum feed) and the cost is usually les than 10 bucks.

I think the price reflects the high end luxury cars or the parts are not made too often.

Cost of 4 wire O2 sensor for my car: $40 (and that's through Autozone, no big price break there)
