Gotta give a speech tomorrow

Just wrote it 20 minutes ago, fairly short, 3 min, but it could make or break my grade. How can I best memorize it?

The idea isn't to memorize speeches (usually). The idea is to cover the points of a speech in a conversational and effective manner. Memorization comes across as memorization unless you're very good at it.

Mostly it's about familiarity with the subject and outline. Do the speech a dozen times. Don't worry about getting exact wording, just get used to how it flows and what you need to say. Let the rest come as a comfortable bi-product of the communication process.

Just imagine your audience is a bunch of dwarfs wearing nothing but socks. Shouldn't be too hard from there. As for memorizing it, bleh what is it about?

do it about 50 times. not only will you memorize most/all of it, you'll also be able to deliver it naturally

well not exactly 50, i meant a heck of a lot of times

Oral book report on the Da Vinci Code

Good luck. I try to just have a couple of words for half a dozen bullet points. The last speech I gave (20 minutes), I think I had about 15 words on a notecard. I just start talking about it and let it flow where it wants to.

Don't go off of a fully written report.
Instead, draw up the various large points of the subject. Then bullet several other sub-topic points for the main points. This will force you to not sound like you memorized your whole speech. You need to make it sound like a one way CONVERSATION. Not a lecture. Instead of repeating the speech over and over again, spend your time familiarizing yourself with the various facts and points of the subject.

i always used to finish up quicker with these sorts of things not because i was nervous or anything but i used to practice them so damn well.

just keep track of time and take it EASY

Oral book report on the Da Vinci Code

Been so long since I've done a book report but if it's what I think it is:

- Read a summary of the book on SparkNotes (et al.) and make sure you completely understand what went on. If there's anything about the book that doesn't connect in your head, solve that now.

In general,
- Remember the key points and WHY they are key points. Make sure you know why. Should you blank in the middle of the speech at least you can elaborate/BS a little bit on one of them. The idea is to FULLY understand it.

- They say you don't understand a subject fully until you try and teach it to other people. If there's someone else you can present it to I highly recommend doing so and making sure they don't have any questions or aren't confused.

- Sit down with your key points and write as much about them as you possibly can without looking at your actual paper. Do this until you're satisfied with your level of knowledge. Writing will also stimulate your visual memory. If you're not a visual learner but a logical one just come up with stupid crap, like remember the author's name is Dan because the book also starts with Da, etc. Or his last name is Brown because Da Vinci painted and a lot of paintings are sepia...whatever.

Got a B on it. Ended up losing it in the middle and re-enacting a gunfight <_<. Finger guns and sound effects, it was great.
