I have been wanting to get Gothic 3 but the patch/game issues has held me off. I came across Gothic Universe that has all three bundled for under $30.00 and I am thinking of giving it a shot.

I understand the need to patch G III but what about I and II? Did Jowood do the right thing and patch the latest versions of I and II or will I have to manually?

I did go to Jowood's official sight but I couldn't find an answer to my inquiry. I also did an internet search but I couldn't find what I was looking for.

Anyone know if I and II are fully patched in the Universe release?

Thanks.

I highly doubt they would be unpatched. Make sure you also download the latest G3 patch, 1.6 I believe. Just don't expect it to be perfect, because it isn't and never will be.

I'm hoping the new expansion won't suffer from the performance issues that G3 had. From what i've heard they are working hard to make sure it won't.

So is it running fine for you? And how is the game play?

This is my first experience with this series, and I have played only a few hours so far. It has run fine so far. Shortly after installing this, I got into the Mythos beta, and I have yet to get back to Gothic.

For Gothic (1) it goes without saying that we don't expect the graphics to be state of the art, but I think they are satisfactory. There is obviously a ton of gameplay in this series, but as I said, I have only scratched the surface.

I find the default key binds a little frustrating, but for the most part they can be reconfigured. I think that someone who is more accustomed to this genre would quickly enough pick up on the gui and not think about it. Apart from that I would prefer to let those who have played further than I to do the reviews just yet. I could say though that I did not especially like Oblivion, and feel that I will probably play Gothic further than I did that.

I only experienced minor problems with Gothic 1 and 2 unpatched, but G3 is unplayable under Vista without some effort. After the 1.6 patch, you need to work some additional voodoo, like changing the default font, in order to make the game playable. I believe the 1.7 patch is incoming fairly soon though I don't follow G3's development very closely.

I sincerely hope that Gothic 4 does not have the flaws of G3. G3 could have been a hall of frame title if not for the bugs and issues. G3 is up on the level of Ultima IX for bugginess and has become the new poster child for a game ripped from the womb.

Thanks for the responses. What is it with RPGs and bugginess, e.g. NWN2 and 6 official patches? This is my favorite genre' but the issues with games released is troubling to say the least.

Bateluer, do you know if G3 runs better under XP? And would I have to change the default font even under XP? Also, with patching would you also path with the community offering as well? Thanks again.
