I have G3:Forsaken Gods on the way,so I'll do my review/feedback later, btw been testing out G3 original game on my laptop(Vista x86) I have to say the Nvidia 17x.xx series drivers seem to work best, tried the 180.70 and had a couple of hard lockups.

G3 original version and Vista gaming wise is very good, only slight problem I have is slight pause now and then ,I guess its loading textures etc into video memory, game has not crashed with the 179.14 drivers which are the ones I'm using at the moment, pretty smooth gameplay with my 8600m gt video chip too @1400x900 res, done about about 20 gaming hours so far.

All I have done is patched to latest version and installed latest community patch.

Anyway next thing I'll do is try out Forsaken Gods (when it arrives) on my Vista x64.

Good luck man. :) I manged to get through it, but it was a mess. If you liked Gothic 3 you'll probably get some enjoyment out of it, but G3 is miles above this POS.

No, it's set in the main lands of Myrtana (no Varant or Nordmar) that you already explored in G3. The story takes place 2 years after the events of G3.

Lol. You may be right about that. Although it's debatable.

I finally got to install Forsaken Gods and play it for about 90 mins to 2 hours (both patches installed). This is on Vista x64.

Lets start with the bad stuff first, well quite a few graphic bug glitches like some npcs with two heads and I even saw one with legs and head but no upper body lol,one serious annoying major bug that I feel I must post its a sort of minor spoiler but you need to read it if you want to finish it the right way I'll put it at the very bottom of this post.

Game is set in G3 main area(scaled down so no desert area) still quite big and same towns etc.. however they feel more empty, also mobs in open areas don't feel as crowded as main G3 game however not really an issue since you level up fast enough, there are still quite a few mobs around to kill.

Annoying issue is it has the same slight pause now and then that the main G3 game had.Graphics/sound are the same as G3,dialogue sometimes has no speech.

Good points are hmm stability I guess since it has not crashed yet and so far I can look pass the bad points to continue playing the game, its a shame really since the issues above should of never got pass beta and especially quality control stage before final release.

Story wise without giving away any spoliers, its basically right after G3 ending so you continue from there.

The endurance issue was annoying at first since you run out of endurance stamina quite fast which can be a serious issue fighting mobs etc.. you end up not being able to fight, time your moves and don't go mad swinging for no reason, endurance potions into your quickbar helps, just remember to run away and get some distance where possible so you can get some of your endurance and health back if you run into problems fighting.

You don't need G3 to install the game and you start at level 10 for your character, yes you play same hero as main G3 game.

Minor Spoiler below.
Don't kill Anton until you got his taxes first or you will bug the collect tax quest which is part of a main quest.

it sounds like i will wait for it to be $5 bargain bin
- what a mess Gothic 3 was .. and now they are milking the franchise

they will have no fans left for Gothic 4, i think

unless it is "console only"

Update on my progress with 1.07 patch,I think the 1.07 does help since it clears up the two headed graphic glitch on some of the NPCs(not found any NPCs yet with two heads).

I would say 1.07 should of been the minimum version before this game went retail even for a rushed game.

NPCs fighting with each other during Hamlars escort mission - Fixed
Hmm not quite I still had two of them fighting each other lol anyay its not a quest breaker so can live with that.

Overall there still some work needed with dialogue, voice acting could definetly be improved not to meantion a few months work could of sorted a lot of minor annoying issues and improve the game where it feels empty and rough around the edges etc..

1.07 patch is an improvement in the right direction however I want to see hopefully another patch released.

It's worth buying if you can find it cheap and are a fan of the Gothic series however don't expect a lot and you won't be too disappointed.

Running out of endurance fast is no longer a real issue for me,it might be they tweaked that with the patch or maybe me putting a lot of strength into my character plus a better weapon has helped a lot in that area.

No crashes yet so stability is excellent, however still slight pause now and then depending where you are.

I'm not rushing this game so expect an update on my progress later without spoilers (unless I find any bug quest breaking ones).

Looks like I come across a bug ,minor spoiler below.

Spolier
Its the first armour piece you have to find from Mystic wanderer, supposed to be in the first cave (on the table)on the left from Geldan to Silden road, nohting on table seems a few others have had this issue too link . I read its only the third best armour once you have all the pieces so guess I just have to forget about it for now.

I'm just annoyed at how they can release a game in this state with serious bug issues even after 3 patches.

Considering this is supposed to be a smaller game both in paying time and area I would of thought they would of got the main issues sorted,G3 main game was a mess and ironic it took the community to fix their game with patches,I can see the samething happening to Forsaken Gods,I guess some of us keep asking for more punishment from JoWood ;).

The community should just finish the 1.7 patch and they fvck it. Its Jowood's problem, we won't fix your crap any more. And, by the way, we're not going to buy Gothic 4 until it we know its been polished.

Can't say I didn't warn you.. :)

The community patch team said they aren't going to touch FG. So it's either more patches from Trine or everyone is SOL. The game really needed like 6 months more development time (at least). Which is too bad because you can see a halfway decent game in there somewhere.

I'm crossing my fingers for G4. Lets just hope Jowood lets Spellbound at least finish it before they release the damn thing..

Hehe well I thought it can't get much worst but wrong,I got to Gotha and the speech started to go slow from the NPC I was talking to then no sound, I went to read a book and my character got stuck lol so trying a reboot of the game now.

Happy New Year !!

:D

thanks for taking another bullet for us, Mem
--god-forsaken garbage from Jojo

No its not,I reloaded and was speaking to Gorn and it happened for some of the dialogue then the speech came back I also found a bug see minor spoiler below if you want to avoid it.

Minor Spoiler Bug

When you try to see Gorn you have to pay the gatekeeper 50,000 gold to enter,if you refuse and try what I did ie.. jump on the roof of the small buildings on the left side to get pass them (hey I thought it was going to save me 50,000 gold lol) and enter the building where Gorn is he won't speak to you to continue the quest.

So basically you got to cough up,even funnier is I nicked all the gear in his chests after paying the gatekeeper and he did nothing to stop me lol well I got some of my money back that way.

I got FG game for free so can't really complain and happy New Year to you all :).

I figure Forsaken Gods will be in the sub 10 dollar bargain bin soon enough, I'll pick it up then. Might as well keep my Gothic collection mostly up to date. Although, I don't have the Gothic 2 expansion. Meh.

Well I just found out that the game is bugged if you don't do things the right way and looks like I have to restart again for the 3rd time lol, here' the thread link ( warning spoliers) ,yes Thorus won't speak to me.

Unhappy player link. and another,I don't think JoWood care.

Forget about my recommendation with 1.07 patch, this game is only playable if you read the spoliers since you can bug the game just by not going to a certain important NPC first,RPGs are about exploring how do they expect us to finish their bugged game without reading help tips on the bugs from the players I don't know.

This game is worst then main G3 game bug wise,Thorus quest is so easy to miss(you have to do it at a certain time and point in game) and then you are bugged since he won't talk to you if you try to do it later.

Update well I found another major bug that effects the game , minor spolier see below.

Basically before you can speak to Lee you need to do a few things from the guard at the gate, one is to find Marc well I found him but he won't bring up any real dialogue,I went back and the guard said is he that hard to find, lol how I'm supposed to complete this one I don't know.

I just don't know if I should give up on this game or start from scratch or wait for another patch.

Samething here happens to me Link.

At least JoWood acknowledges this is a crap effort:

http://forum.jowood.com/showthread.php?t=158562

First of all we want to thank the community for showing their support and we also want to thank those who have chosen to buy the game. Unfortunatey, it wasn't possible for us to release a game that could fully satisfy you, for different reasons.

The game was released this year because that was what we and the community desired. JoWooD and Trine have worked under a lot of pressure, and to repair some of the mistakes we released the game with a patch, hoping to make it better.

Michael Kairat, Executive Producer of JoWooD said: We are now getting the full "bill" from the community for our mistakes.

JoWooD Productions would like to present their apologies to the fans for releasing an unsatisfying game.

Furthermore Michael Kairat explained that in the next days a new patch will be released which will improve the quality of the game. It will be available for download on JoWooD's Official Website.

We also want to make a content patch which will include opinions, suggestions, wishes from the community. After the feedback from the community, we will release a statement regarding the patch.

Toghether with Spellbound we will make early beta tests for Arcania: A Gothic Tale, to be sure that past mistakes will not be repeated. JoWooD admits their mistake, and will prevent it from happening again, says Michael Kairat on behalf of the entire team.

I will applaud this gesture as a publisher owning up to their mistakes. However, their customers would have forgiven a 6 month delay in the release of FG if it meant a polished experience. Releasing unfinished titles will effect the sales of the next title.
