Ok, I got the game and played it for a little over two hours last night. My impressions of it so far aren't very good. If you were turned off of G3 because of performance issues then you can stop reading now, it's not any better. It uses the same engine and from what I can tell the only performance tweak they made was adding AA which makes it even more of a slide show! haha, so anyway, my initial experience is below.
**Minor Spoiler Alert
For those of you who beat G3, FG follows the Xardas path where him and the nameless hero travel to the unknown lands. The humans beat the orcs to win the war and take over much of the Myrtana again. It's two years into the future and now it seems the land is once again falling back into trouble. The Orcs are gathering up again for another battle with the humans. How original.. So Xardas thinks they should just let them be, while nameless hero thinks they should try and bring peace. Him and Xardas actually get into a fight about this and nameless wins but is weakened from the battle. So you wake up in Silden about a week later with low stats, from the battle I guess, and off you go.
**End Spoiler
If you manage to get the game to run at this point (I had to do ini tweaks) then you're in for a bug fest. There are two patches out already that I applied that supposedly fix certain quests, but I haven't made it far enough to get to those. I ran around in Silden doing some quests, but the annoying thing about talking to people is half of them have different voices throughout the conversation. Once voice actor says something about helping him get a gem back or something, and then a totally different voice ends the conversation. They also used a different voice actor for nameless so that's annoying as well. He sounds angry now, and basically comes off as a dick in whatever conversation you're having. You also have conversations where the NPC will make hand gestures but there is no dialogue, then all of the sudden they say something that seems totally random. Like they ran out of time or something and didn't record all of the dialogue they needed to but they left the conversation in the game anyway. It's pretty bad.
So beyond Silden I went up into the woods a bit and there are huts and fires burning but no people. So I just robbed that ghost town and keep going to Geldern. Walking around Geldern are guards with two heads. I kid you not. It's like a head behind the main one. One guard was sleeping and his second head was hovering above him, it was kinda funny. There were about two people I could actually talk to there. One was this father that wants you to stop the miners from fighting because it's disturbing his family. So you accept the quest and it say "Family wants playrr to stop miners" or something like that, spelling mistake and all. lol So I went and did that and you have to fight the miners. So this brings me to the new and "improved" fighting system. Which is basically two things. The stamina bar now works, so you eventually get tired and have to just run around waiting for it to charge back up or get hit while drinking a potion, and second, people can run away from you. So I fight two miners and beat them down, then the last two run away after a few hits. So I think i've beaten them.. Nope, I go back to the father and he's still saying I need to help them.. bah, so I find the miners that ran away and they are just chilling there. So I basically start a fight with them, run around to fill my stamina when it runs out, and eventually beat them. Quest is won, and I get some gold. Whoopie.
That's as far as i've made it so far, but it seems like a pre-alpha release of some player made mod rather than a finished product at this point. Seriously, i'm guessing it probably needs at least another couple months development to even be considered anywhere near finished. I figure Jowood just wanted to get this out before the holidays. I might continue to play thorough it for some more laughs, and maybe to see what happens in the story, but I advise you to stay far away from this unless you absolutely have to find out what happens in the story. It apparently brides the gap between G3 and Arcadia (G4). Whatever that means..
