It is pretty cool.

I've been playing off and on; haven't had a lot of time lately. I'm probably about 6-7 hours in by now.

What I've played I really like.

I really hate how you can kill orcs and big monsters but die from a stupid wolf or a boar when they do their berzerk attack.

and I wish I can run faster. and Leveling is a bit complicated. do I get enough learning points to at least try everything or do I need to focus on one skill?

The animals can get pretty crazy when 3 or more attack you. You can usually kite 1 or 2 away from the pack though. Same with Bandits, a pack of 6 will own you pretty bad early on 🙂 Also, fast attacks (right click) are your friend against beasts, parry against humanoids.

There is a run button which increases speed quite a bit. With some searching around you can find teleport stones for the cities as well.

Im only level 25 but ive been able to try some things and still stay pretty high on sword skills and strength, so i'd imagine you get plenty of learning points to spread around. Getting alchemy to 50 (i believe) will let you make permanent potions to increase stats (and some skills) without using points.

on max settings, the scenery in this game is GORGEOUS.

heres a decent FAQ from Jowood http://forum.jowood.com/showthread.php?t=140278
does contain some spoilers but they're hidden til you click on them
The parts about liberating cities is kind of important.

Thanks for the info and link. Definitely some bits there I hadn't picked up on. I got this game years ago, but it was so buggy that it didn't make it past the first hour of play. Community patch has made it very playable.

This patch is awesome. I can finally play the game on max settings without it turning into a crawl fest. I did manage to play through the game twice previously with lowered settings before any of the community patches, but now I have new incentive to do it all over again.. 🙂

I may wait until the english version of the quest pack is released though. For those of you who haven't heard of the quest pack, check it out here: http://de.babelfish.yahoo.com/...nTrUrl=%C3%9Cbersetzen

I think you're thinking about the original Gothic. Wolves were a bitch in that game.

Must be the wild pigs then? There is a quest about 15 minutes into the demo which requires you to go clear an area of pigs - no matter what I do, they always beat my body to a pulp. 🙂

I think they're neutered a little from the the original release. I remember having to wait many levels to do that quest the first time I played.

Just use the bow that you get in the first battle. Draw it and sneak up to them; get a good vantage point. The bow does good damamge and you'll be far enough to run away when they charge.

Even if you don't play as an archer you'll want to use the bow a little anyway during your game; no game makes me feel more like a kick ass archer than Gothic 3.

Yes, most definitively. The first time I played though he game I only used swords. The second time I started using bows and crossbows and it made a world of difference when trying to fight some of the tougher enemies. It's pretty funny sniping shadow beasts from a rock they can't climb. They give up and walk back to their cave if you aren't attacking them for awhile, then you score a hit and they come running back all angry again. lol

Use the right mouse button for quick attacks that will lock them in stun mode for a while, but break off and back up from time to time because they will get a shot at you and doing this keeps them from hitting you.

Vs Humonids right mouse blocks
Vs Animals right mouse does quick attack.

There is a 1.71 patch (128mb download) and it seems to improve some issues for me.

with 1.70 I would often get corrupted textures randomly but after 1.71, it seems to be good so far.

Link?

You can master two of the three disciplines in a game imo. In my game I maxed out swords and archery. Archery is very useful.

The newer expansion G3:Forsaken God was more of a mess then original G3 IMHO,the latest patch helps but the game still feels empty and shallow compared to original G3.

Like many I have held off loading Gothic 3 until the final relaease of the finall community Patch 1.07. It is huge at 880 MBs but check out the ChangeLog. For a group of volunteers they deserve kudos for their hard work and persistance.

Check it out: http://forum.jowood.com/showth...?p=2469866#post2469866

Now I can go and load and play G3 for the first time.

Awesome. I will try this and also play Gothic 3 for the first time. Bought it 6 months ago or so.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't realize this thread was over 15 months old.

Should I even try gothic 3 again?

I played it vanilla when it came out, and it was simply a horrible game. I don't even know if fixing the bugs would make it a good game.

I wonder if you have to restart.

I'll have to check this out.

It's awesome they're still working on this game; I thought they had released the "final" patch already.

Gothic 3 is such a huge canvass to fill in.

yeah, try it. It's a decent game now.

Yup! Except the combat is still a bit wonky - I personally didn't like it so I enabled "god mode" [bumped up my stats so most mobs would die in 1 or 2 hits].

The Ati fix for Gothic 3 works great. Anyone know how to get a similar fix for Forsaken Gods?

As far as I know there aren't any patches for Forsaken Gods. It's a horrible buggy mess, and unless you are a huge Gothic fan and absolutely need more of G3 I would avoid it like the plague.

However, if you already own the game I was able to make ini tweaks to get it to at least run. I initially found all those tweaks on the Jowood G3 forums.
