Got to sit in my bosses IS250 yesterday.... Love the startup sequence...

If you want the power, save up your money for the IS-F coming out early '08. Lexus is going head to head against the M3 with that car.

The 350 is kinda imbalanced for a car like the IS. The 250 is great. Sure if you want the power, the 3.5L engine is needed, but the 250 is not slow or anything. It's slower than a Camry 3.5 duh but not the 2.4 Camry.

There's nothing wrong with the IS250. I have one and have owned it for a year now, it's a great car. I've driven both though and the IS350 has gobs of power. That car is quick. The only difference between the two models is the engine.

Hah I was about to link something like that. Here's a STi gauge cluster sequence with matching Defi BF Amber gauges:

Pimptastic but Defi's are $$$.

I was always tempted to put a set of DEFI's in my GF series. I had the original top pod, with the compass, barometer thing, in a 1 DIN unit, but toy'd with the idea of dropping three gauges in there.

Didn't.

Well, I have an Audi A4 1.8T right now, and I'm sick of feeling like I'm driving an 18-wheeler when it comes to acceleration. I mean, people in Kia Rios can beat my car off the line. I just can't do another powerless car like this again.

Since you own one though, how are maintenance costs? Like scheduled ones? Are there any "gotchas" like on an A4? (Timing belt, fuel pump, coil packs, etc.)

Aphex is from FL. Isn't it logical to assume his boss is from the same state?

That's what i was thinking. It is odd for someone in the US to use C. Most people won't bother even though it is a better unit of measure.
What's better about it? Fahrenheit is more precise within our normal freezing to boiling range.
no, it sucks.

The only thing Lexus owners want to hear the the soft hiss of their oxygen masks. 😛

I was going to explain, but you did it perfectly.

None yet. Coming up on 17k miles and it's been trouble free. I think we had one routine service that was a couple hundred dollars but it's a small price to pay really. Oil changes are expensive at the dealer but it's worth it IMO.

Go drive the IS250, if it's too slow then I'd suggest dropping the extra $5000 to get the IS350. I wish we bought the IS350 quite frankly but I can't say anything bad about this car. My '03 Maxima is quicker in a straight line but in every other way the Lexus is far superior. It really is a top notch ride.

350 is about 5k more.

Why buy a "fast-looking" car that is slower than dogsh!t, 0-60 is like 8 seconds.

If you don't care for performance, than get a ES. If you just wanna look "fast", then I guess getting a 250 would suit your superficial needs.

HP isnt everything.

On another note, check into the Audi A4. I just got a 2007 2.0T Quattro with S-Line and Titanium package among other things and I absolutely love this thing. Its amazing.

I've read that the Sport Package on the IS250 gives it a tighter sporting feel...also, the 6MT might make it worth it.

All lexuses handles boatlike, sport package or not, RWD or not. Nothing wrong with it, that is just their philosphy.

I test drove the IS350 w/ sport package, and I thought the TL type-s handled better even with FWD. There is a video on youtube that proves my point, it put the TL-S, IS350, and G35 on the track, and guess who did the best? The FWD TL-S.

Yeah Lexus is NOT in the game for Sport Luxury. When I was car shopping I avoided the TL just because I find the look to be a bit too Asian and the FWD to be a bit annoying with the torque steer.

As far as the vid you speak of, it doesnt really prove much...unless the buyer is looking for a track car. The FWD driving feel is not for all. Torque steer/traction issues with launching suck!

ecu mod + K04 turbo = ~300hp at the crank. that's what my bro did to his 2002 1.8T

Yeah a small bit of money goes a long way with these turbo'd 4s that Audi puts out.

I made a thread a while ago as my parents bought an IS 250. It's not so much the acceleration or the ride that they chose it, but the feeling of luxury that you get when you sit in one. It's something you won't find in the g35, the TL or even a BMW...

My thread:
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=38&threadid=2026352

Really depends on what you're looking for in a car. For the lexus, you're paying a bit of a premium for the interior...because it really IS NICE, especially with the cashmere leather and the wood trim.

Most of ATOT will be going for "bang for the buck" in terms of performance...take a look at the poll in my thread.
