Got to play with a SGS II for a few hours last night.

I haven't used any kind of protector on my ipod touch and it's been in my pocket and bag with all kinds of crap for 2 years. I haven't noticed any scratches in it at all despite that. Now that I looked with the screen off I see there are a couple small scratches, maybe 1/4 in long but since I haven't noticed them when using it who cares? Are people worried about resell value? I don't know about you guys but I keep most of my stuff till it breaks, or it's so old and messed up it's not even worth to put on ebay.

Putting some gummy rubber crap on the screen does not sound like it would make it great to use, but then again I've never used one..

Meh I could really care less about the glass screen really. Hate using the plastic film overcoating, makes the experience that much less enjoyable. Even if there are scratches, honestly unless the screen is turned off I would not really notice it there.

I love how people always show the Youtube videos about Gorilla glass and say that its not scratchable. It's true that its very scratch resistant. You're seeing a 10 second clip of someone scratching the screen. Chances are nothing will happen, but over 6 months of being in your pocket with keys and small bits of dirt/sand, you could develop scratches. What you really need is accelerated testing to simulate long term use. I'm pretty sure going a week with a naked phone is far different than going 6 months or even a year. I typically chance it with my phones after I get them and order the protector afterward. That one week lead time isn't going to kill me.

As a materials engineer, gorilla glass is scratch resistant, not scratch proof. This is what Corning will tell you if you ask them why you see scratches on your screen. It's not a guarantee to be unscratched.

I noticed scratches within 2 months with my iPod Touch and Motorola Droid. These aren't the same scratches that plagued my plastic screen devices like my Nokia N-series, and Sony Ericsson dumbphones.

You shouldn't say you don't NEED a screen protector. It still helps in that you can switch out protectors, but switching out a screen??? Everyone should be aware that your screen protector will scratch far more than your actual screen, but if you're willing to change it out every like 2-3 months or something, then that's fine also. Another downside to the screen protector is that you lose oleophobic coating. There are oleophobic coated screen protectors, but they arent' as good as the glass screen itself where 2 wipes on your shirt takes off the oil. I know how frustrating this is because my Moto Droid has oleophobic coating but my iPod Touch does not (on the glass screen). One requires me to use my breath and relentless wiping, while the other is a effortless two swipes across my shirt/pant.

I've had my iPhone 4 for 11 months now, without front protective proctector and I don't see any scratches with my naked eye. I always have it in my front pocket along with my keys and coins. So far so good. I've had 3 smartphones thus far and never felt the need for any screen protection, and never was bothered with scratches if there was any. But meh that's just me.

I've had my captivate for over a year, no screen protector. In pockets with keys, abused, and the screen still looks mint.

I wouldn't mind if they made the whole phone out of gorilla glass.

Same. Its not scratch proof but its pretty damn good. More than good for me to not even worry about dragging it across concrete. Its not shatter proof but a screen protector isnt going to help that.

Never use a "protector" and get really irritated when playing with phones that do. Oil, scratches -- those protectors look horrible a huge amount of the time. Not a scratch on my bare glass.

On the other hand, I do give the phone its own pocket (no keys/change) and have a TPU case with a lip around the front to absorb drop impact.

Sprint has an October 7th meeting to possibly announce an LTE roll out (source: http://androidandme.com/2011/08/car...trategy-update-on-october-7th-lte-on-the-way/). So say they do announce it, how long do you think it would be before we actually start being able to use it? I assume they would have to launch some LTE phones first? Reason I ask is because that is the one thing holding me back from buying an S2, the fact it is LTE-less. If they are gonna announce that early October, then already be launching LTE versions of their current phones say mid/late-October, then I'm willing to just hold out until then. However if it's gonna be 6 months after the announcement before anything actually starts happening, then I'll grab the S2 now.

The current rumor is that they will announce 3g rev b; which will do up to 10mb/s.

IIRC, the Epic 4G Touch and Evo 3D are the only devices that wills upport EVDO rev B.

Fine with me 🙂 My Epic Touch gets delivered tommorow. I would MUCH prefer EVDO b over a LTE announcement. EVDO is MUCH more widespread and I only see 4G in big cities for the most part.

Same here. I live in Maine, and nobody has 4G here yet. Sprint's 3G isn't bad, but, happy they're improving it.

this case just arrived for my international SGS2

http://www.amazon.com/Premium-Samsun...623945&sr=8-18

solid, perfect fit, looks nice. Plenty of room at the 3.5mm and micro USB ports, and the fit around the power button and volume rocker is absolutely perfect. I assume they will have similar cases for the US versions?

not too heavy--but it does add a little weight to the phone, which is probably a good thing for those that are actually put off by the SGS2's feather weight and unnerving slimness.
🙂

Just ordered my phone, should be here in 2-5 business days.

On an interesting note, the $10 extra for 4G (just calling it what it truly is) only applies to SERO plans that have a 4G device and regular consumer plan. I guess on any regular consumer plan, if you activate a new 3G/4G device they add that $10 charge on there, but with SERO the $10 charge is on there only for 4G devices. The rep said that if I were to buy a 3G device and activate it, my bill would stay at $40 + tax (SERO-P plan). That was news to me.

yes, it has the lanyard hole, it also has the hole for the Korean SGSII version that has an antenna extension (upper right corner). SGP is Korean-based, I believe.

and yes, it was right at $27 shipped for me with Prime. ordered late Sunday and arrived Tuesday.

so, for me--that is very expensive for a mobile phone case. But, this is absolutely solid, imo. I haven't dropped it or anything,--I don't intend to, of course.

here's a youtube review (which I just looked at without sound)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3V4C4fJ_fRE

i particularly like that the power and volume buttons are covered, and actually made more accessible with this case. At least, that's how it feels. No loss of sensitivity or added stiffness with those, either.

Compared to the bare phone, there is a very noticeable weight increase. It still ways a bit less than an all-metal phone, but I think for most, the weight increase is actually a plus. Good grip, too.

I'll post back if something truly appalling occurs in the near future, but everything about it, so far, has made me happy.

I didn't use the included screen guard (I already have a thick crappy one that I will soon remove). I will probably be sticking with no screen guard, in the end, but will leave it covered for a few weeks, most likely.

I haven't tried to take the case off and put it back on, though. I think there were some reports at Xda forums that repeated, careless removal of the case caused some damage.

thanks for hte response. i was going to pick up an otterbox but they say on their website that they dont have a lanyard thingy. what a disappoint. actually looking at the image shows that there is a cutout for it, so i dunno. i'll wait a bit

now, what's the difference between the sgp neo hybrid and the neo hybrid "ex"? EDIT: just found out. the EX does not have a back cover and it's exposed.
