Got to love Texas....

Monday was day 70 of the 140-day legislative session, so let's check the scoreboard. Bills and resolutions filed: 5,941.
Days met: 36.
Honorary and congratulatory resolutions approved: 789.
Substantive bills approved: 0.

Finally some politicains I can agree with. Not a single crap bill, I wish Open carry was passed but at least no extra bullshit was.

Maybe these people are actually reviewing the bills that are being introduced, wonder why the U.S. gov can't slow down it's pace a little.

Yeah, it's called oil. It's certainly not the quality of the politicians that come from Texas.

We need more legislatures like that, at the state and federal level. Just because they are there doesn't mean they need to be passing stupid bills all the time. If something really needs passed, great, otherwise don't pass anything.

Are lefties admitting that oil drilling creates jobs?

Yes, clearly the issue of drilling has to do with economics rather than the environment on the left (are you retarded?)

It hasn't? Didn't the oil companies make record profit last year?

Yes, the oil industry is clearly in shambles because prices couldn't be sustained at $130+/barrel (which was less than a year ago, by the way).

Historically (adjusted for inflation) ~$40 a barrel is high, link.

While the south currently has a higher unemployment rate than the northeast, there seems to be a nice mixture of states that are anti-Bush versus pro-Bush in regards to low unemployment levels.

Well that and the revenue from all the drug money being spent there by the Mexican Cartels

The Texas State legislature took off their socks and shoes and still couldn't come up with enough fingers and toes to account for the $3.5 billion state budget deficit.

From the Texas Municipal Leage:

Texas has long failed to make adequate investments in public infrastructure to keep pace with our rapidly growing population. In the latest assessment by the American
Society of Civil Engineers, Texas earned dismal grades for the condition of its public infrastructure.

Without Dubs funneling all of that extra education money in there Texas may have to raise that 8.25% sales tax limit.....

No.

If you compare the state-by-state electoral map HERE with the unemployment map HERE looks to me like red states are faring better as a whole.

I'm not sure what that's suppose to mean, if anything, or why you mention it?

Plus, the South did not for McCain in a block, like the NE voted for Obama. NC, VA and FL all voted for Obama (3 of the biggest electoral college states in the South. BTW, I don't consider Texas as a 'Southern state').

None of the states earned "good" grades from ASCE, IIRC.

California will still beat out Texas, even with a incompetent Republican running it into the ground right now. Easily.
California got downgraded to what? The 9th biggest economy in the world instead of the 8th?

You all have your own problems to work out.
Like those nasty greasy sweet peppers you put in your "texmex".
When you figure out how to make a good burrito then get back to us.
Maybe we can mail some Avacado trees as a peace offering if you lose the Texan lame swagger, you do not impress anyone.

Texas is somewhat insulated because of oil, as someone else stated.

Uh, its more than just "oil."

Texas economy is extremely diversified and its very pro business.

Texas has no debt. California has a shit ton.
Texas is ranked one place behind California in terms of biggest economies. Texas is about to gain 3-4 more House Seats after the census.

1. Education is funded by mostly property taxes.

2. The state sales tax is 6.25%, localities have the ability to add on another 2% for their needs.

3. Texas doesnt have a budget deficit. They have a tax revenue shortfall, unlike other states we don't spend $20billion more than we have. We make budget cuts. However we also have IIRC ~$9billion in the rainy day fund.

4. Obama is funneling more money into Texas than Bush did.

Careful. If you make this place sound too good we'll have more people come here and mess up a good thing. Who needs that.

Thanks to Obama, Texas shouldnt have to tap the rainy day fund this session. Texas may be ranked in the bottom half on most metrics, but atleast Texas doesnt have an insolvent government.

Yeah, only if you've invested in it. If you're an oil company you're still doing fine.
