Hmmm, the reviews keep getting put off, I thought there was supposed to be one here on Monday.

I'm going to be using DDR2 probably for a year, or till prices of DDR3 come down, so I figured the heck with it and got the Abit IP35 Pro.

Previously got Antec P180B, E6850, a Gigabyte video card....a PCIE nvidea 8600 card, forget the model #, I have 2 gigs of Firestix 800mhz RAM, and a new 750 gig Hitachi 7P1000 HDD. Oh, still waiting for my Ultima 90 hsf....I think it will arrive today 🙂

Be starting on the build tomorrow 🙂
 
Man wish I could have found the Abit board around where I live. I really wanted a board for my build the past weekend -- had it all sitting there but was missing a board as I was very set on getting a second eVGA 680sli. Then I could not find one of those either and did not want to order online from NCIX so I gave in and purchased an Asus P5K-e Wifi.

So far great board. Wish I would have gotten the Abit tho.. just to try it out. Let me know how your cooling works with that Untima 90.

PS I thought there are x38 chipset boards that support DDR2 and not just DDR3. Think the Gigabyte one actually does. I read a review over at Legitreveiws.

 
i have the maximus formula and i absolutely love it!! it is super stable even being as new as it is...@ first i had some troubles with it but its all working out perfectly now...super stable board and a pretty good overclocking as well
 
What's the different between the asus and the abit really? What about the asus P5K vanilla? Do you lose anything going with that?
 
BoboKatt and tylerw13 are both right. X38 boards are not DDR3 only. There are quite a few X38 boards out there that support DDR2. Gigabyte has 3 X38 boards, 1 featuring DDR3 (GA-X38T-DQ6) and 2 featuring DDR2 (GA-X38-DQ6 & GA-X38-DS5).
 
The gigabyte x38-dq6 is a nice board and most of the reviews out there says it's an overclocking beast.

The only downside is that you need to couple it with fast kick ass RAM sticks.
Don't make my misstake and use value RAM.

 
Yeah I hear you guys, but the impression I'm getting is that X38 is gonna need DDR3 to really stand out. I was waiting for the Abit Quad GT or whatever they call it, but I see the price they're asking, converted from Brittish pounds, is $256. I got the Pro after $30 rebate for $146. Just decided it wasn't wort waiting any longer...



 
I had an EVGA 680i board for about a month and it took a dump on me. I had a bad feeling about those boards from the start but took a chance and lost... Instead of getting another 680i I went with a Bad Axe 2 and so far it's been a great board. Not as many overclocking options as the 680i, but I'm not a super hardcore OC'er anyway. As long as I can get 25% or so I'm happy.

Anyway, my point is that like you, I got tired of waiting on X38 boards. Specifically the Bone Trail board from Intel. Plus, also like you, I don't see the point of going to DDR3 anytime soon either. The 975 chipset might be getting some age on it, but it's rock solid and does what I need it to do.
