The one good thing here is:

"the ability to put the modem ?on-hold? when the network indicates that an incoming call is waiting."

This is a handy feature, but I kinda hope they dont try to push the phone modem much further. Cable and xDSL are becomming much more widely available, and wont be too long before the phone modem wont even be used.

If you have the opportunity to switch, DO IT! Its amazing speed at a very little additional cost of a 'dial-up' connection.

thats insane! is that CDN at least?

I pay $39.99/mth CDN for my @home ($26.91 USD).

I used to pay $24.99/mth (16.82 USD) for my v.90 dial up.

Stefan, you have to realize that high speed internet access is one of those things where we Canadians leave the Americans in the dust :p

I also pay $39.99 CAD per month for cable :)

There is no competition for the cable company here and it is 29,95 canadian if you have cable tv (most ppl do), 39,95 if you don't (Again, most people DO).

There is no competition, and those are the prices.. I can't believe you'd have to pay over 60, U.S!! That's insane!

BTW, I pay $20/year and $19,95/month for dialup (yes, that first one says $20/year)

in my neighborhood, they charge $39 for cable modem, and you have to have a modem running for upload!!! how bad is that, you only get to use the cable for downloads!!

jeeze, the whole point of me even considering it was so i would free up the phone line, (well, that and a whole lot faster)
