my hardware

athlon xp 2100 agoia (i think, it's the better one) made in the 17th week (ithink)
gigabyte GA-7VRXP v 2 (kt 333)
samsung 512mb ddr pc2700 ddr 333
windows xp

i got this bit of software with my motherboard called easy tune. i don't think this motherboard lets u change settings in the bios. as my processor is locked and i don't wanna unlock it et, the program only will let me up the system bus, by 1mhz increasements. beacuse my mother board is kt333, will it automaticly have that 1/5 divider working? i don't wanna blow my hard drive or anything. how far should i take it up? my case temps are 35-40 C. i ave 2 case fans. the cpu fan is the retail one, though processor temps stay quite low at around 35. how do i test for stability afterwards? at the moment everything is default, and this system is very stable, never crashes, and i like to leave it on all the time. How would i test instability properly. i'm not talking about anything ridiculous like leaving some stress test thing on for 8 hours, but surely just runnin 3dmark is not enough?

also, how can i overclock my ram?

also, in easy tune it always gives the warning 'warning sytem fan=2363 rpm!!!' whats wrong with that?

Easytune is just like SoftFSB - it changes the speed that your chip 'talks' to the rest of the components... sorta.
It will be on 133(266doubled) at the moment... just boost by 5 mhz till you reach about 145-150. If its still happy, keep notching up the FSB untill its stable.

When you boost the FSB with easytune, you are also upping the RAM's speed (im pretty sure, unless ur boards funny :))... thats how you overclock RAM. FSB.

For stability... I just let Sandra do a burn in test of all the shi+ that doesnt move :) Eg: Get rid of disk tests. No point in hammering the disk to test stability IMHO. Stick it on continuous testing and leave it overnite. See if the comp lives next morning.
Prime95 is meant to be very good also.

What onboard 'peripherals' does that board have?

Your CPU fan is either just slow, or the divider is wrong in the fan setup. Either disable fan monitor, or tell it not to bitch @ you untill its <1000rpm.

hope this helps
