Got the wife a Mazda CX-9 for Xmas present

The wife needs a new car to replace her Maxima SE - so i picked her up a CX-9 for a christmas surprise last night. We really needed something with a nice amount of room (2 kids - so the third row for their friends is nice!), but nothing like a Yukon XL or Expedition. I was looking at a 2008 CX-9 Touring edition at CarMax that had 14k for $23,995. I then decided to talk to a dealer and was able to pick up a new CX-9 Touring edition for $24,750! The sticker was $32,XXX, but with the recession we're in and the lack of SUV sales, they were happy to take over 7,000 off the price! Not bad for a 2008 SUV of the year! 🙂

Looks just like this with tan leather

I have to say, I'm very impressed with it. The engine is peppy for an SUV and has a slick auto/manual 6 speed that is very smooth shifting. The ride quality is close to her Maxima. Fit and finish on the interior is excellent and I haven't found anything really wrong with it at all!

First order of business is to throw these in the rear headrest for the kids.

The bluetooth is awesome. I sync both of our phones and now you can just press a button on the steering wheel and do voice calls through the audio system. It's really sweet how it works and great for hands free calling!

Two thumbs up!

Nashville, TN.

You won't regret it. It's even got a 5 star crash rating. I was surprised they have side airbags for the third row!

So you're not gonna surprise her on Christmas with it like those lame Lexus commercials with the big red bow on the car?

How are you planning on surprising her with the car? Just park it across the street and move it to the driveway morning of?

He said he got it for his wife, not his boyfriend.

I think it's more towards the crossover segment like the Infinity FX, Nissan Murano and so on. I don't really care though, it's an excellent car and drives great.

It's stored in my mom's garage right now. I plan on having her drive it over when she comes to christmas. Then I'll tell the wife to go help mom get the xmas presents out of her car in the drive way. She'll never suspect a thing 😀

I know she'll love it, because shes been inside one before. We were planning on waiting until next year to get a new car, but I got promoted 2 weeks ago and it just felt like the right time to do it. No one wants a large car now adays and I got such a good deal...couldn't pass it up!

I ordered the 7" Alpine LCD screens w/ wireless headphones for the headrest. I'm going to give it to the kids for christmas and my oldest son can help me install them while we're off work and school! Now I just need to find a DVD player I can hide under the seat.

aw man if I ever did that to my wife she'd rip my balls off and make me return the car. She's also one of those "a car is only useful for getting from point a to point b" types. On the other hand, if you dropped a nice Corvette Z06 off in my driveway for Christmas, I definitely would keep it 😀

That's a good idea 🙂 I sat in the CX9 and I just can't imagine me in such a huge car. Even my wife went no and she thinks she is the suv type.

I don't think my wife would be too pleased without some input. We usually take turns choosing our cars. Since I chose a large SUV a few years ago she gets to buy whatever she wants next. I'm trying to convince her that a GT-R is probably her best bet but I don't think she if fully onboard. I pointed out that it does have 2 seats in the back so we could take the rugrats if needed.

That's hardly a large car/SUV. It felt just right almost to me. (5'10", 160lbs)

It's 1 foot longer than her Maxima, I wouldn't call it a huge vehicle. It's not a Yukon XL!!! It's shorter than my F150 XLT, but just a bit longer than her Maxima...so it's just right.

Also, she has had input on the CX-9. We car looked earlier this year and she really liked the CX-9. She said she would like a CX-7 so we wouldn't spend as much money, but still have some room. So she got the upgrade 🙂 Believe me, I wouldn't just buy a car without knowing what my wife likes. If you pay attention to her taste, she will let you know what she likes!

I am driving a Protege5, trust me, CX-9 is huge compared to that 🙂
