It was the Cholesterol....

265 🙁

HDL: 32
LDL: 180

Yikes, got me on Lipitor (isnt 23 a little young for that?) and im going to a nutritionist next week... He said there isnt all too much i can do since every single person in my family has high cholesterol, the odds are against me for ever getting it truely normal...

Fresh fruits and vegitables will help with the HDL.

Raw is better.

Hopefully the meds will work good for you.

I never knew you needed to worry about it at such a young age.

Got a screening w/ my blood donation last month..... It was in the low 300's 🙁

Too much red meat 🙁 I have slightly elevated bad cholesterol as well. Just eat more fish and less meat.

I don't eat much red meat, 95% of the time i eat chicken instead of beef.

I'm 32 and had my cholesterol checked at one of those free testing event things. Turns out it was 254. After 6 months of exercise and eating right (including oatmeal for breakfast). I'm now down to 140. That was with no drugs at all. All it takes is a little motivation 😉

Chicken has cholesterol, too.

Some people are just prone to high chol. levels.

Time for you to start an exercise program, my friend. 🙂

those numbers are high for a young person, but much of cholesterol is based on genetics. Sounds like you got some bad genes. Make sure to take the meds your doctor gives you, they are VERY important in controlling high cholesterol.

High LDL is the number one cause of cardiovascular disease (ie: heart attacks and strokes).

you may also want to ask your doctor about taking gemfibrozil (Lopid) along with lipitor, this would help raise your low HDL levels.

if your diet is low in fat and still has high cholesterol, it's probably in your genes, google autosomal recessive hypercholesterolemia.

See, there was nothing to worry about! You can fix that problem with exercise and some diet changes.

It is tougher if you have genetic issues. I have kind of the opposite problem - LDL is fine, but HDL isn't high enough. Mine's only 28.

I dunno....it's not so bad other than the open sores and painful discharge......according to Pyonir anyway.

Well, the good news is, it's not going to kill you. At least not right away. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I've been taking Lipitor for over a year, and it hasn't killed my liver, yet.

I don't understand why a doctor would put you on medication right away? At 23 you're still very young, and through a good diet and exercise, can definitely drop that down to an acceptable level, even with bad genetics.

That's bad, but definatly not deadly...

Just do the doctors orders... you'll be fine 🙂

usually those with FH (familial hypercholesterolemia) have heart attacks by their 50s or 60s (just listened to a seminar on it). Looks like you might have to take meds and stay fit for the rest of your life. Also be sure to indicate to your doctor about your family history (any relatives have heart attacks?). The person who did the seminar also had FH and his cholesterol was in the 300's and he was at the low to average end of the spectrum.
