I am thinking of picking one up as well for my X1800XT. I work in CAD all day on this system, and if I don't have any music on the fan can get annoying since CAD loads the video card and cpu. My system is whisper quiet thanks to the 120mm fans and the AC freezer 64 pro. The only thing I can hear is the fan on the X1800XT, and its much louder then the silent VGA Silencer that was on my 9800 pro AIW. I am a little worried about the extra heat being dumped into my case, but I have 2 120mm exhaust fans, and I think they will handle the heat without a problem. How hard was it to install?

rthdribl doesnt work as a good method for heating up the x1800/x1900 series.
why? cuz its ran in 2d mode with lower clocks and lower voltage (1.2v 500/600 for the x1900)
you can check load temps by having atitool open, but DO NOT disable the two services if you are simply using atitool to measure temps! if you disable the two services, it'll be stuck in 2d mode and u'll have to change the voltage and clocks to make it match 3d mode.
if u go to the temp monitoring tab under atitool, u'll see theres a min/max/avg
phantom404, I agree with your review about the temps. I used arctic Silver 5 on mine and got similar results. I have a really quiet PC setup and so I have OK airflow -- 1 120mm fan in 1 out. They're running @ 1500 RPM. Using ATI Tool, I have Accelero X2 fan @ 100% all the time.

I just installed one on my X1800XT. It was pretty easy to install. All you need is a #1 phillips head screwdriver and a set of precision screwdrivers. The sticky thermal pads are a little annoying to work with and I imagine it would've been a PITA if I hadn't aligned the Accelero up with the card pretty well on the first try. Once you get it on it is very securely attached though. My case temps are about 1-2°C higher now too, but I can't hear the video card fan anymore and the video card runs much cooler now.
Runs about 52°C/75°C now with a single 120mm intake and exhaust. I'm running a 3.6Ghz prescott in there too, which is the main reason the idle is a bit higher than others have reported.
Just found a version of ATI TOOL that worked and never seen temperatures go above 65 while playing eq2 for a couple of hours on maxed out settings at 1680x1050.

Did your Accelero X2 come with memry pads on it???? Mine has no pads on it and I don't really want to install if its going to cook my card. In the instruction it says remove the top layer off the pads? what damn pads???? arrr
all i did was remove stock heatsink. The ram pads came off with the heatsind so those were clean. My accelero(yours should to) came with memory pads which i put on the heatsinks first. I pilled both sides off so the pads would stick to the memory chips and would also stick to the heat sink. I then put the heatsink on carefully because it might be hard to get off if yo uput the heatsink down and you dont have it lined up with the holes because the ram pads will stick.

Mine came with eight, gray 3M sticky pads to interfacie the memory chips. The stock heatsink will have cloth pads (filled with white thermal interface material I suppose) that you can easily transfer over to the Accelero. The 3M pads have sticky adhesive on both sides, so there are two pieces of paper to remove when you install.
Make sure to line up the new heatsink right the first time if you use the 3M pads, as they grip and don't let go when you first install them. Lineing it up correctly gets the preapplied silver thermal goop centered on the core correctly.
Yeah never mind im an idiot. I found them buried in my new DFI motherboard box. Not sure how they got in there haha. Thanks for the help guys.
The X1 is made for Nvidia cards (7800 and 7900 series), while the X2 is made for ATI cards (X1800 and X1900 series).
Phantom, I have been checking my temps, and I noticed about a 7C degree drop at idle, so I'm running roughly around 53C at idle. I was using Rivatuner to check the fan speed, and I noticed that it only runs at 22% at idle, and while using the ATI auto overclocking tool to find max speeds, I noticed that the fan doesn't seem to go over 38%. I tried manually increasing the speed to 100%, and noticed the fan seems to run @ 2000 rpms and temps seem to be 3-5C cooler with no increase in noise. I am considering running the fan at 100% all the time, but I am worried about decreasing the life of the fan. Could you check and tell me what speed or load rating your fan is running while at idle and under load?
Just curious, how many extra slots does the Accelero consume? Is it just the one slot next to the card itself, or does it take up two?
I used ati tool to move the fan speed to 100% and found the idle temps drop to around 48 and under load is around 62ish. On default fan speeds the idle temps were about 52ish and loads were around 65.
it just takes up its own slot and the one next to it.
