Why do you have a bank from Western Mass when you live in Boston? I live West of Worcester, that's the only reason I ask.
 
Oh and I would consider the insurance, and maybe even a security camera system. Maybe change all your locks "just in case" (or was it clearly a "break in"?).
 
You had some type of security device on your laptop at least, right? Something that emails you the IP address? I'm sure something like that is free nowadays.

I got mine through Travelers I think (it was whoever was providing renters insurance through Geico) and it was about $120 per year for something like $50k of coverage. I had to pay it all up front but it really was cheap for the protection it gives.

If you think you can't afford renter's insurance you probably can't afford to go without it. It's incredibly cheap for the amount of coverage it gives. For the cost of a few fast food meals or a DVD a month you can protect almost everything you own.

How did they break in? And you're stupid if you're not going to report it. If there have been a rash of burglaries in your area and catch them, you might get your stuff back.

Buy a pump shotgun, hope to be home if it ever happens again. I recommend the Remington 870 and the Benelli Supernova. The Benelli is better.

EDIT: They got him! Robbing another house a town over. He pulled a knife on the homeowner and got the shit kicked out of him LMAO. He had my class ring on him when they brought him in. Now they're searching for the rest of my shit. Looks like he lives around the corner from me. My shit's probably in his apt. but they can't get a search warrant for it for some reason. I completely take back what I said about the police probably not doing anything. The detective that came started calling surrounding precincts to see if they had anything similar happening, and that's how he found out about this.

That's pretty hilarious that they caught the moron, and pretty lucky. Hopefully he's got all of your stuff in his place and you can get it back without any trouble.
