What hit you? How fast was it going? I'd like to here the story on this.

I've known claims adjusters in the past. They said a general rule of thumb was, if the airbags deploy it's totaled. That was before side airbags though. I would say greater than 50% chance that it's totaled.

Hope you have gap insurance. If not, push the other guy's insurance company to buy a new replacement honda that is just like the one that was totaled.

Motorcycle hit me. Witnesses say it was 150+. Still waiting on what the crash detective says.

Police report says "excessive speed, estimated 120". The impact sent my car in to a spin ... some how I managed not to roll the car. Another second later and the bike would have put me into a concrete barrier.

Whoa! How did the other guy even survive?

That is why I was asking how the guy survived the impact. Hitting a car on a bike doing 120mph+ sounds fatal!

and now it gets interesting...
I too am wondering how that guy survived..😕

He died. He had leather on, but no helmet.

I didn't want to really get in to the whole story... the police/firefighters couldn't believe the damage a motorcycle did to my car.

Why not?

Racing on the freeway with other bikes, not wearing a helmets, and driving wrecklessly is asking for trouble.

I'm sorry you had to see it. I bet it wasn't a pretty sight.

Sit back and a

OMG, I'm sorry you had to go through that. Was he dead on impact? That's crazy.

<snicker>

You spelled it that way on purpose, didn't you? 😀

Have another !

Wow, he asked about insurance before he mentioned the fact that a dude died in the crash. That's interesting, you must be a real american.

LoL, you made a sad face cuz your camera got broken too, and a guy died, and you neglected to mention.

Lol, you are a jerk

Anyhow, that's insane. The dude probably wanted to die for whatever reason.

now that you dropped that bomb on us, tell us what the fvck happened! Were you stopped? breaking hard? driving 50 and the dude just slammed into you????

You guys are nuts. Just because it most likely has a tweaked frame that doesn't deem it totalled. I got in a wreck and it tweaked the frame on my $4000 car and it was not totalled. And no insurance company is going to total a car because the airbags went off.

My guess is the guy died on impact.....with the pavement. He was in a lot of pain after hit the car but I would assume he saw the ground coming and then whamo! nothing. Sad but when you push the limit you're asking for trouble. Pics would be cool, can't you just borrow a camera? Or get an elcheapo disposable and take it to a 1hr photo?

Why should he feel bad that a moron died? They die every day and I'm sure you don't go moping around about it all the time. If it were me, I'd be pissed that the dumbass forced me to participate and watch him die.

Your car does not have a rear axle. It has two spindles, one for each wheel. There is no axle running between the wheels. No FWD car with independant rear suspension has a rear axle. I have seen some FWD cars with a "dead" axle in the rear, but your Accord uses an independant Double Wishbone derived setup that uses a spindle for each wheel.

Most RWD cars do not have a true rear axle anymore either, instead they use a pair of halfshafts with CV joints at each end to allow fully independant rear suspension.

So your rear wheel spindles are probably fine. However, if you can't get the doors open then it is probable that the frame is bent and that the location points for the rear suspension have moved, in which case the car is effectively dead. If there are problems with the driver's door, then the frame is certainly bent. Get some repair estimates and don't just go with what the insurance company says, but I would be very surprised if the car is not a total loss.

wow...that's why i'll never drive a motorcycle (though i bet i'd be just as dead if i was in a car/suv/truck/tank going at that speed)

So we're supposed to feel bad that some dumbass going 120+ by police estimates had the inevitable happen? If someone is too damn stupid not to know that going 120+ on public roads is a dumbass idea then I really think it's better that he be removed from the gene pool.

He did not die on impact, he died at a hospital. Witnesses say he went airborn with his bike... but he was breathing when I checked on him.

I was in the slow lane and he was racing - the other racer didn't stop either. I think a lot of people are lucky those idiots didn't hit the gas tanker behind me:|

His friends said he had been racing for a couple hours that nite, so apparently it was a common thing:|

Damn. :Q

If I had someone hit me and die like that, I think I would be shaken up for a while....

You mean the life of a stranger is more important to you than your car?
