I've searched high and low for the holy grail and yet to no avail I've come up empty handed. How this vexes me so.

Alas maybe some kind soul would show an act of tenderness and compassion and acquire one of these great beauties for me to behold?

iwantpaytv.com is comparing apples and oranges. Comparing the Standalone TiVo to the Dishplayer is stupid. The Standalone TiVo was never meant for Sat. TV, while that is the whole market for the Dishplayer. If you really want to compare the two, you need to find a site that has a comparison of DirecTV with TiVo and the Dishplayer.

$116 is better than you can do on eBay and other forums.

ReplayTV is the bomb. Being able to pick show while I'm at work with myreplaytv.com rocks.

A few weeks ago I picked up the last 6 20hr Tivos that my local Wal-Mart had (actually, none of the WMs in the area have Tivos anymore now) for $110 each, and I sold them all on eBay. They went for about $235 each, and I made a little over $600. $40 or $60 is a really good deal!

<< Yep, there is an additional fee, soon to be $300 for a lifetime subscription.

Still, as Tivos go, it's not that bad a deal.
>>

My lifetime or theirs ?

See the thread re the CDRW rebate (seach for Philips - one L only) to see the type of business practices they engage in.

Phillips - I'll pass thank you.

Go grab one for me? Please? Or someone grab me one?
>>

Won't even be grabbing one for myself (hence my comment "Phillips - I'll pass").

When I am convinced that it will not become a doorstop (ie the people that run the subscription service decide that they are not making enough cash and decide to shut down their service) i might consider one. This would require a basic reworking of thier business model.

Let me rephrase my earlier comment:
See the thread re the CDRW rebate to see the SHODDY type of business practices this company engages in..

you all need to get yourselves a ReplayTV. ReplayTV is 1000 times better than your tivo. First of all, its free. The software is so far superior. You can tell your ReplayTV to record a show from anywhere in the world through the internet. You can also fileswap recorded shows with other Replay users, like Napster!

That is a neat idea, but not yet ready for mainstream.
Using the poorest quality setting to reduce size, and using a common 768/128 DSL line,
it takes 16 hours to transfer a 1 hour program, or 32 hours for a 2 hour movie.
Using normal High Quality, and it will take 96 hours (4 days) to transfer a 2 hour flick.
This is all based on maintaining peak uplink connection, and not using internet at same time.

I wonder if this is sent using one file, or many smaller ones? What happens if there is
an error? Is the entire transfer wasted, or can just the damaged portion auto-fix?

And then of course, everyone that wants to receive this file must also have a $400
ReplayTV unit, as the files are not compatable with anything other than ReplayTV.
