Good point. Enforcing speed laws where pedestrians are likely to be intermingled with motor traffic has nothing to do with safety.
 
Your second argument is stupid. Whether the cop broke the law has nothing to do with you breaking it. And that's rubbish anyway. I was paced by a cop once and he flicked on the lights once he was convinced I was speeding (which I was).

Sounds like you didn't really know what was going on. Just pay the ticket and be done with it.

I meant in general. It's very possible the op was driving at an unsafe speed for conditons.
I'm just saying to exercise your constitutional rights and fight every ticket. The fact that he was stopped and ticketed addressed the safety issue.
 
Please, please, please get a video of the judge's face as you're using acceleration formulas for a defense. +1 if you use a slide rule.

along the beach 15mph is a safe speed...yeah if you are a local you can just go 60-70 and park no prob mang....but there are going to be tourists (down here it's Canadians)...and kids..and pets sometimes.

you can't stop fast enough.

Yes, most people go faster than 15mph there, but that doesn't make it less dangerous especially since many of the people are drinking before/while they drive. Look at how many people die at the dunes each year.

In general, you're an idiot. A guy goes more than 2 times the speed limit and you claim that it's his duty as an American citizen to fight it. Ridiculous.

He admitted that he was driving well over the speed limit. He needs to pay the ticket and move on, no need to waste tax payer money to try and fight it.

you happen to know the guy with the bug with the wind-up spinning thing up top? I was behind him as i got pulled over 🙁 speeding until I was behind him, then followed him at his speed. by then I was already tagged. oops.
 
no..short and round. After some thought, she was the same woman hassled me the other day for trying to hitch a ride on the beach. I wonder if she made the connection.

So you're saying a 100% differential is plausible? I could see if the speed limit was 25 and he was clocked doing 30, okay. But he was clocked over double the limit, even if you added in a 50% margin of error. He'd still be speeding. And by OP's own admittance he was going at least 30. Which is 2x, you know something I never ever speed. And thusly have never been pulled over because of it, crazy how that works huh??
 
Police in California(and most states) don't have to pace you or use a gun estimate speed. They're trained and tested on estimating speed with their eyes. She can say she saw you speeding and visually estimated it at 35 and her word is as good as a radar. She can say she was "pacing you" you to travel behind you with intent to stop at a safer speed than a full out chase. You have nothing to fall on and you're better off not trying to fight it.

Following the speed limit can be dangerous at times. Have you been in alot of accidents where you get rear ended? I just drive with the flow of traffic. If people are bottled up and trying to pass you, thats more dangerous than just going 5 or 10mph faster.

Any ticket where you are going with the flow and get pulled over is just revenue generation. There are some true morons out there that deserve to be ticketed though. There still is a safety issue but it's hard to side with that when common sense has gone out the window with enforcement.

I was in court for a speeding ticket, and some of the stories I heard were lol-worthy. These people deserved tickets.

One guy was "scared at how close he was to the wall" so he jerked the wheel and lost control.... he hit the wall... twice... and flipped over.

Another guy was doing 105 in a kia or something to "see what it could do"

Another guy was doing 30 over in a BMW. His explaination started with "I was passing the slow cars with my BMW.... and its just so fast it got away from me"

There was an older guy there who reminds me of Quebert who brought a lawyer and he hadn't had a ticket in 30 years. The judge layed the full fine on him for bringing a layer basically.

Go to court and give an explaination if you have mitigating circumstances. A guy almost caused an accident by coming into my lane without a signal directly next to me. I was clear to my left in the fast lane so I got over. I didn't really even have time to honk or anything, just move or crash. My exit was in 1/2 a mile and now I was in the fast lane and this guy to my right who shoved his way in caused everyone to be like one car length apart. So I sped up to try and make my exit all stressed out and the cop was right there. I was in the middle lane because there are alot of merges in the right lane before my exit. It didn't seem like a good idea to hit the brakes and drive like 20 below the speed of traffic in the fast lane to make my exit so I passed.

How do you know that she didn't pace you for that long? You said yourself, the rearview mirror wasn't adjusted propertly.

That aside, 16mph or 160mph, you were still speeding. You lose.

I think the Op should STFU and pay his ticket but you would be the first person I have ever heard of who "never speed". How is that possible, you're 90 years old, your nagging wife drives with you everywhere you go, you're a pedestrian?

I never speed either. It's really easy once you figure out that you'd have to go WAY over the speed limit to even make an appreciable difference in the amount of time it takes you to get somewhere vs going the speed limit. Hell, the advantage of going 15 miles over the speed limit could be eliminated by a few untimely red lights on a short trip. Speeding is too much potential cost for too little gain. Whatever it is you have to get to, It'll likely still be there when you arrive whether you speed or not, and arriving a whole 5-10 minutes early is not going to improve your experience there.
