Got owned at the restaurant tonight

Went to a nearby restaurant for dinner, one that we haven't visited before - one of those informal "pub" style places with pool tables and tons of big-screen TVs. I had a cup of chili and a brisket sandwich, my wife had a club sandwich, and we split an order of six mozzarella sticks. We both had raspberry lemonade (two each) to drink, nothing alcoholic.

When the bill came, it was $48 and change which made me think she gave me the wrong check. Looking it over, we ate $24 worth of food, and had $24 worth of beverages. Raspberry lemonade was $6 - and no refills!

I should have realized that when the waitress greeted us and suggested raspberry lemonade when asking what we wanted to drink, that it wasn't going to be $1.59 with free refills. They never suggest anything cheap - it's always their big ticket item. Oh well, we won't be going back there. I don't blame the waitress for not telling me that it was $6 for lemonade, but it would have been nice to point out that the refills weren't free, unlike at any other restaurant where I've ever had lemonade.

My biggest fear is that RossMAN will lose respect for me now. ;)

:Q

Were the lemons hand picked, fresh squeezed, and blessed by the Pope or something?

FWIW, was the cup of chili any good? Always a good thing to know where you can get a good bowl of that when its starts cooling down in the fall/winter.

It was good lemonade, but let's face it - no lemonade is worth $6 for a approximately 16 ounce glass full of ice.

I should be thankful it was only in the 70's and drizzling today and it not as blistering hot as it's been recently - if it had been real hot today I might have had three or four.

I learned when I was 6, by a firm talking to and maybe a tight shoulder grab from my Father, to always ask how much something costs before ordering it. This was after I had purchased a 30 dollar dinner at an Italian food restraunt and didn't even ask him, or the waiter, how much it was. Granted, I didn't know the value of money, but come on...never buy something without knowing the price!

Oh, by the way, $6 for lemonade is ridiculous. I thought I was getting owned by spending $7 for a large beer at the A's game...at least you get drunk from beer.

Sort of your fault but not really. I feel bad for you.

Once my friend went to CPK with us and ordered rootbeer. It was IBC so it came out in glass bottles. He kept getting refills and yup, you guessed it, not free. Poor guy.

Ask to speak to the manager, phrase it this way:

"Your waitresses suggesting an exhorbitantly priced lemonade in the hopes of ripping people off inspires in me an unstoppable protection instinct. I feel the urge to warn every person walking through your door not to order it. Of course, if you take that ridiculous $24 charge off my bill I'd be willing to leave without trying to keep you from ripping off other customers."

A lot of places don't put drink prices on the menu, or put prices for softdrinks but no prices for alcoholic drinks. Bars hardly ever tell you how much drinks cost. I guess it's a big-shot thing. If you have to ask, you can't afford it....

reminds me of my dad and i going out for lunch one day years ago; id been mowing the lawn at home and work that day, adn got a late start; it was hot as hell and i was damn thirsty.

so he asks where we wanna go, hes tight.....and cheap, so i suggest a burger joint with huge cups and free refills.

he wants to hit a sportsbar with $5 burgers and, as it turned out after me having 5 cokes that were mostly full of ice; no free refills.

my drinks alone cost 7.50

If Ross gives you a hard time, just gently remind him how much he paid (or overpaid) for his 2005FPW.
