Got nailed by a redlight camera due to a rolling stop.

Right turn on red. The right hand traffic had a left turn signal, and after the semi was blocking oncoming traffic, I pulled up and went ahead, Nothing could have gotten through at that point, but I did roll through a right turn.

Thus, I owe the city $100 for a moving violation 2.5 years after my last one, and will pay it, and dutifully endeavor never to use that intersection again.

Wow glad they don't have those cameras here. If you don't do a rolling stop, people behind you will either beep at you or try to pass you (which is very unsafe, but they'll do it anyway). I try to follow all the rules but if there's people behind they get pissed off. It's sad really. Technically, at a 4 way stop you actually have to wait like 3 seconds before you move, same for when a light goes green. Those are all little rules that people break all the time, so they basically pick and choose who to catch.

Lord, I quake in fear of the day we have those around here and/or they come up with remote speed monitors that can issue tickets.

I mean seriously...I am all in favor of safe driving and accountability, but this is getting out of hand. Traffic laws were designed to keep people safe, not be a source of income.

i guess that 4th guy that runs the light after it turns red (and my light has already turned green) doesnt deserve a ticket either...

I hate those bloody things. I'm starting to think the fine for an invalid plate will be less than the fine from one of these things.

need to get the james bond setup.

Its a conspiracy involving the police department, the auto industry, and the oil industry. I'll be glad to see the day public transportation works as well as the West European and Southeast Asian nations.

Signal as you get into the lane, but turn it off once you're in. Turn it back on just before you turn.

Obviously doesn't work in right-turn-only lanes.

Yeah...I proved to the judge that officer could not clock me at 641 ft. At 550 ft, it arches because it is the tip of the hill and it's angle is steeper than in to looks (had pics and everything). Judge just went, "it's Lidar". I just responded, "But Lidar cannot disobey physics....". He did want to not hear it. "it's lidar, so you are found responsible". I mean, WTF? I did not spend 2 hours away from work just so you can tell me that I have no case at all b/c you do not want to listen.

Judge on a power trip. You don't say?

This happened to me once. The cross-traffic coming from the right side had the left-turn signal, while I still had a red light. I came to a complete stop with my turn signal on; a Hummer H2 behind me laid on the horn and blew past me on the right shoulder.

It's funny too, he may have saved 3 whole seconds in his trip.
Something about driving turns some people into impatient psychopaths, like it's a damned race or something.

I doubt we'll ever have those cams here. I'm not sure what it even takes to get pulled over on this island. Last week my co-worker and I blew past a cop doing 40 in a 20 (he was driving... not me) and the cop never even blinked. The cops here will tailgate you and pass at the first opportunity if you're driving the speed limit.

Is that some sort of Canadian law? It's not stated in any driver's manual I've ever read.

Red light cameras aren't set up to capture right turn traffic.

It's unwritten driving etiquette that I've seen in a movie before. Redsquirrel is a little mistaken though. You are technically supposed to wait 3 seconds after the vehicle in front of you leaves to provide spacing in traffic so you are not tailgating the person in front of you. At a 4 way stop you only have to give the right of way to the person that deserves it and feel your car rock back after you have come to a complete stop.

In real life this does not work except in very small towns. Try pulling this in Chicago traffic and you might get shot.

Wrong. They are SPECIFICALLY setup in some areas to catch this.

On my way to work every day I pass two intersections with red light cameras and they have a set directly aimed at the right turn lane.

In some areas, maybe, but I saw somebody get busted (yes, with a flash) for a rolling right turn.
