So does HD-DVD not require HDCP or any of that other baloney? And will HD-DVD still function over Component? How about S-video/composite?
No - at this point no disc makers have implemented HDCP. HD-DVD will work over component, but neither S-Video nor composite are HD-capable.

So technically I could play HD-DVDs via Component on my SDTV?

I just received mine from Amazon today - I will plug it in tonight. FYI, I pre-ordered on Nov 5 and still received the King Kong disc (there was a whole hullabaloo on Amazon as to who would and would not receive it, depending on when they had ordered).
Yes, it does. You have to download unofficial drivers and buy decoder software that supports HDDVD, but it works fine on XP.Originally posted by: randay

What about HDMI? I thought the HD-DVD add-on had HDMI.Originally posted by: Queasy

Does the HD DVD for the 360 do upconversion to 1080P like the stand-alone players do?
Yes but you have to use the VGA cables. Won't upconvert over component because of MPAA/DVD consortium rules.

Would that by any chance be the 34XBR960? Otherwise known as the holy grail of HDTVs (at least back in its day).
No, not a Sony. It's a Toshiba CW34XC2 (otherwise known as the CW34X92 in the US). The footprint is huge, and it weighs something like 200 lbs, but the picture is damn nice. I may not get the full 1920x1080 resolution of today's LCDs, but I have superior black levels, contrast, and colours IMO. Furthermore, it doesn't suck on analogue cable. Every single LCD and plasma I've tried sucks royally with analogue SD cable. I'm not a big fan of DLPs either, or at least not the ones I tried up to last year. I didn't appreciate the video lag, and I didn't like the rainbow effect I sometimes saw.Originally posted by: RapidSnailWould that by any chance be the 34XBR960?
