Got my X800 XT PE, however troubles came with it

anyone else having the same problem I am having below?

I just received and installed my ATI Radeon X800 XT PE card on June 16th. My dilema is that at the resolution of 1600x1200, my screen flashes to an all black screen every couple seconds. However at 1280x1024 I don't have this trouble. I have tried everything I can think of with no luck fixing it. I have removed and reinstall the card, the drivers, direct X and so on. My last alterative is a complete hard drive wipe and reinstall, but I really don't wish to do that if at all possible. I really want to benchmark this card but I want to have it running right first. So if anyone has any ideas I would be greatful to hear them.

Well it has to be either the video card or the monitor so if the monitor used to work at 16x12, rma the card. For what you paid you shouldn't have to deal with crap like this.

Yes, check to see what your monitors capabilities are. Can it go to 1600x1200 at certain refresh rates etc.etc.

If your monitor has this covered, just try another video card (if you have one) or another monitor that is capable of 1600x1200 and see if you get the same issues. If not, RMA the XT.

Run driver cleaner and then try a fresh install of the latest catalysts.

Are you using analog or digital? Does it have the same issue both ways? Tried different cable?

Have you tried every combination of these settings (Options Tab)?

*Reduce DVI frequency on high resolution displays
*Alternate DVI operational Mode

What type of LCD monitor cable are you using?

I recommend Dual link DVI-D cable.

Dual link DVI-D cables allow users to get the most from their digital signal quality with resolutions up to 1920 x 1080 (at 85 Hz) - 9.9 Gbps -

Odd. It might have something to do with the DVI blanking interval (or whatever it's called) used for higher resolutions (like 16x12). Look for a checkbox of that nature in the ATi Display Settings. If it's unchecked, try checking it; if it's checked, uncheck it.

I think it's under Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > ATI Options > "Reduce DVI frequency on high-resolution displays."

And make sure your refresh rate is reasonable for your monitor, like 60Hz or so.

This AND uninstalling old drivers completely worked for me when I had similar problems with my x800 xt pe.

One more thing I noticed I can not play any game at 1600x1200, I get corrupted data on the screen or the screen flashes to a black screen very couple milliseconds; which makes it impossible to even change the resolution back from in the game.

Thank you all for your suggests I will try all of the above tonight, if they do not work I will RMA the card. I will keep you all posted.

Try it on a CRT monitor and see if you get the same errors. It sounds like it isn't cooperating well with the LCD.

Also, you can try running the LCD on an Analog cable (if the monitor supports that) just to test if it's only on the digital connection.

UPDATE: I checked the "Reduce DVI frequency on high-resolution displays" box and it seemed to help a bit. It still flashes to a black screen; however only every once in a great while. On a really great note I am able to play games at the resolution of 1600x1200 which was not possible before. I played some Joint Ops last night at 1600x1200 with all the setting max except AA (it caused some graphic corruption) and it played and looked awesome. I am going to try hooking up my 19" CRT Monitor tonight to see if I have any troubles.
