yes, the p4 3.0C is an 800 FSB... but the 3.06 is a 533. im guessing he has a 3.06, and got the pc2700 to match the 533 bus speed.

3dmark03 just checks your GPU, other components have nothing to do with it.

VIAN, I beg to differ. If he were running a P3 1000mhz or something I guarantee you he would score 2000 or lower. CPU has alot to do with things.

3.0C 800MHZ PC3200

There's a 3.0B 533fsb chip.. I've looked into it as a possible upgrade, but couldn't really justify the cost (have a 2.6b now)

Edit: Doh, should have read the rest of the replies :p

Okay, so VIAN meant "3DMark03 is highly GPU limited, and unless you have a processor from 199X, you won't see any huge improvements"

But anyways ...

Play real games and compare the fps.

So I tested you little theory.

I took my computer and lowered the FSB speed to 100MHz leaving the CPU to 1GHz.

I proved that I was running a 1GHz machine by checking with 3dmark2001se which gave me a score of 8000 compared to the 16000 I was supposed to get.

Then I check with 3dmark03. Instead of my 5300 points, I got 4700. So anything small CPU and memory upgrade related will bring little points.

Cool VIAN, so you proved both of us wrong. You said that "3dmark03 just checks your GPU, other components have nothing to do with it." which you now admit is untrue; your score dropped with a lower CPU speed.

I said "If he were running a P3 1000mhz or something I guarantee you he would score 2000 or lower. CPU has alot to do with things." which is again untrue.

Ah well, at least we tried. :)

bah.. every time it's "format your computer", and every time a solution can be found w/o doing that - if you want to take the time.

I've NEVER had to reformat because of a video issue, why is it most ATI drivers require this if they are so "good"? You dont have to re-format when you install new NV drivers!

you don't have to reformat for either.. driver cleaner is your friend :)

So that's why 2 people are recommending a reformat here, just because he is getting low FPS?
