So yeah, I ordered a x2 3800+ toledo to replace the 3000+ venice in my old rig. The ac64 pro I ordered along with didn't come in, so I just put in the new cpu with my old stock AMD cooler that came with the 3000+ venice. This a bad thing ? After booting Windows told me new hardware had been detected, and wanted me to reboot. When I look at system, it does say acpi multiprocessor cpu.

Then, how to set affinity of programs to a certain core ? First thing I notice is that Rightmark CPU clock Utility sais CPU 0 is running at below 40ish celsius, and CPU 1 is running at 28ish celsius? I did run orthos for a minute, and I guess only CPU 0 got stresstested, and perhaps the OS, and FireFox, and MSN etc etc are all running on CPU 0? Now, how to run orthos making it stress 1 core, and another orthos stressing the other core ?

Not gonna OC, YET. Wanna wait till the new cooler comes in.

-edit, funny thing is, CPU rightmark sais I've got a manchester core, scared the hell out of me, but revision JH-E6, so I loaded up cpu-z which sais I have a Toledo core, stepping 2, revision JH-E6. Heres a picture of it ... http://www.pcgamespecial.nl/us...marc/tempsandstuff.JPG

The stock cooler will be fine for the X2 running at stock speeds.

You shouldn't have to set the affinity manual with Orthos. It should see each core and stresstest each one separately. Are you running an older version?

It's common to see a 5-6C difference between cores. My X2 3800+ saw as much as 7C between Core0 and Core1 when maxed out.

Running small fft's in orthos, where it indeed does stress both cores, they will run as hot as 60celsius and 55celsius, in just a few minutes. So the gap becomes smaller. But that's a little hot for my liking. I'm doubting wether the paste was applied correctly/sufficiently, and how good the paste actually is. Can't $#@$#@ wait till my ac64 pro comes in, which might take another 10-14 days considering how long it took them to get me my CPU, it has the right amount of as5 pre-applied, so can't go wrong there ...

Oh, and could this error have something to do with any kind of instability ? http://pcgamespecial.nl/users/marc/errorcore.JPG

My AC Freezer 64 had a concave heatsink and the heat spreader on my X2 3800 was also concave. I lapped both and lowered my temps under load by nearly 10C. Temps at 2.7GHz are about 55C under full load.
