USB dude.

seriously...except that some companies place their plugs upside-down, and not everyone uses the same end (minib, b, proprietary, etc, i think its still overcomplicated)

Waggy, do you have a wired network? I will send you an HP print server for the cost of shipping if you want. It will hook up most parallel port printers to the network for everyone to use. I have some to spare.

I'm surprised there was a printer in 2003 that didn't even have USB as an option.

Oh and yes refurb dells are win. Bought a Vostro 220 for $260 a couple weeks back that had a Core 2 Duo 2.66Ghz with 2GB RAM. I used to enjoy building my own computers but these prices are so good I can't pass them up.

thanks skyking. but we i ordered a cable that would do it (i hope lol)

my last 2 computers i have built have the port. i was kinda suprised that new ones don't ahve printer or ps/2

lol now i feel old hehe

maybe your neighbor took it on his way out?

There are all kinds of all-in-one deals out there for $50. Spend the cash so you can scan all your girlyfriend pics for us!

I think MB makers should get rid of the Damn PS/2 ports already
I still need the serial port (To program my Police Scanner) And I still need a parallel port (For my JP1 Remote)

Why replace a perfectly good printer (or a perfectly good anything, for that matter) just because it's a bit outdated? 😕

Don't know about you guys, but as long as something does what I need it to I will continue to use it.

Yes indeed. I have had an endless parade of color inkjet printers come and go, I print a meager few color pages as needed and they eventually die. The old laserjet 4 plus sits in the corner hooked to the network and keeps on printing all the monochrome stuff year after year, on a toner I got for $35. It refuses to die.

exactly. i paid like $60 years ago and it still prints fine. no reason to get another printer unless i really have to.

not to mention its cheap to use.im on my 2nd toner cartridge. I'm at 1400 sheets into it though. it said it prints 2500 on regular and 3500 on toner saver.

Yeah inkjets are kind of crap. I recently picked up a Brother laser, hopefully will get many, many years of use out of it. 🙂

Yeah, they tend not to put ports for hardware that nobody uses anymore on newer computers. I bet you don't have a serial port either 🙂

i didnt even notice that..but you are right LOL

Wow, parallel ports. Do you still have a rotary phone? Black and white TV? Powder blue leisure suit? VCR? Phonograph?

I'm all for keeping things that still work. Though you just spent what, 15% of your initial cost of purchase to make that old printer still work?
I used to have some older laser printer that generally worked fine. When I got a new PC that didn't have a parallel port I decided it was time to get a new printer.
A brand new HP laserjet was picked up for around $80. It included a full toner cartridge, was smaller and faster than my old printer and worked with USB.

I used to be pissed that newer computers didn't come with legacy PS2, keyboard and parallel ports. Then I made the move to current technology (USB, not that new) and haven't looked back.

I know you spent $60 in 2003, but comon, I spent over $60 just on cheese this month.

Still using a PS/2 Model M keyboard. No plans on changing any time soon. It's by far the best keyboard that I've ever used.

Why get rid of a perfectly functional port? For keyboard and mouse there's no advantage to USB over PS/2. For a printer, yes, USB is faster and a clear improvement (at least when printing image-intensive documents), but what advantage does a 400+ megabit connection have for a keyboard or a mouse? They just plain aren't pushing that much data.

Legacy ports have been on the way out for years. The computer may have a parallel port header on the motherboard (probably not, but worth checking). Might also consider a parallel port PCI card or parallel to USB adapter. No need to replace a perfectly fine printer. 🙂

just found http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16822998005 wich looks like it would work.

hate to replace the printer. its a old Samsung ml4500 laser printer. it is perfect for what we use it for. I think i paid $59 for it in like 2003 or so (on first replacment cartridge)

id idnt know they did that with the ports. my last computer (i built) had them on it.

i wanted to spend the tax refund on getting Wii fit and a new deep freezer. but she wanted/needed a computer...and she threatened to stop giving me nookie if i didnt!

pussy whipped is what you are...what did she cut off your hands too? Palmala Handerson and I still have a great relationship... 😉

Isn't it more efficient to just make a laptop w/ 3-4 of the same kind of port rather than try to fit a lot of different ports into one tiny laptop mobo
