my wifes computer died (well the video card) so we been scrambling to do something. we got back $400 from the state for taxes so we figured what the heck lets see what dell has.

i looked in the refurbished area and they had a 530S for $300. it has a Intel Pentium dual-core processor E5200, 500 gig hardrive and 4 gigs of ram! hell its a nice computer for the price.

go to hook everything back up. it does nto have a printer port! WTF now what. i was suprised on that. when did they start doing that?

bah now she does not have a printer.

now all i need is to replace a ati 9800 pro for my wife's sister! woot!

..and find a printer. but man hate to replace my old samsung laser printer.

so what have you guys spent your tax refunds on?

I was going to say that I probably have half a dozen serial/parallel cards laying around.

Then I realized they're all ISA.

Legacy ports have been on the way out for years. The computer may have a parallel port header on the motherboard (probably not, but worth checking). Might also consider a parallel port PCI card or parallel to USB adapter. No need to replace a perfectly fine printer. 🙂

just found http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16822998005 wich looks like it would work.

hate to replace the printer. its a old Samsung ml4500 laser printer. it is perfect for what we use it for. I think i paid $59 for it in like 2003 or so (on first replacment cartridge)

id idnt know they did that with the ports. my last computer (i built) had them on it.

i wanted to spend the tax refund on getting Wii fit and a new deep freezer. but she wanted/needed a computer...and she threatened to stop giving me nookie if i didnt!

since i quite working (ohh 6 years ago or so) i havent kept up on computers. i used to be up to date on everything.

i had a friend call and start asking about new AMD cpu's and what motherboard/chip was best. i had to admit i had no stinking clue.

i was rather shocked it didnt come with a printer port.

i have a ati 9800 pro ...i might sell it
Just replaced the stock fan because it was dying
also have a fanless fx5600xt

Seriously? I don't think I've even seen a printer with anything but a USB port in like 6 or 7 years.

At least...I don't remember seeing a printer port on a new PC since 2000 or so.

Fortunately, as waggy has found, there are ways around the lack of a printer port.

2000? What?

They've been phased out on laptops for a while, but for desktops I think it's really only in the last few years that many manufacturers stopped including them.
