hey old fart you gotta hook me up with those configs then..... i installed the radeon back in and tried installing the new drivers.... still the same thing.

CPUID says im running 4x agp.

hey one question.. how do i know I am running 16 bit or 32 bit? The opengl tab correct?

so it would be a good idea for me to DELETE EVERYTHING that has 3dfx in the registry?

I'll hook you up when I get back which should be late Thursday night. I'll send you my Q2 and HL config files on Friday. Hopefully, they will help. The only way I could think you are having such abysmal performance is some sort of 3dfx driver or config setting that is hosing you up. As far as running 32 bit in Q2 or HL: Q2 will use the desktop setting. 32 bit desktop = 32 bit Q2. HL you have to put a -32bpp in you HL launcher shortcut. Hl.exe -console -32bpp.

Use add/remove programs and uninstall 3dfx tools. Remove Voodoo3 from the device manager. Do this in safe mode. I bet you have a pile of them with all the swapping you have done. Remove all the Radeons while you are at it. Do a find file 3dfx, voodoo, glide and remove any files you find. Remove all 3dfx entries from the registry.

Install the Radeon. I haven't seen the new drivers, so I don't know what the new settings look like. The way I have the Opengl options on the drivers I'm using are: Check only: "enable page flipping", enable ktx region..." and enable texture compression". FSAA and anistrpic are disable, LOD is "sharp".

If you want to try Q2 from there: search your entire Quake2 directory for config.cfg and autoexec.cfg. Rename any you find to autoexec.old or config.old. Search that same Quake2 directory for 3dfx and opengl32.dll. Delete anything you find. Start Q2. It should come up in that hideous 320 x 240 software mode. Change video to 1024 x 768 and "default opengl". Run a timedemo and see if it works.

I'm not trying to be critical, but it seems to me that a clean reformat and install would have saved you a lot of time, compared to the effort you have gone through so far.

I've done this a couple of times over the past year. I export my Favorites from IE Explorer, Export all of my data from Outlook, Save my Word documents and then go for it. In the long run it makes for a more stable system and cleans out a lot of crap.

If you have a CD burner, you can save all of it to one disk. I have all of my drivers, utilitiies, bitmaps, and personal stuff on a CD that makes a clean install a snap.

Just my opinion.
