Got my new lappy up and running!

Got my new lappy in today. I love it.

1920x1200 WUXGA 15.4" screen
1.8 GHz Pentium-M
1 GB ram
9700 Pro
60 GB HD

Bunch of other cool stuff too 🙂

I've got seti running on it right now but it's really slow (like 5 hr wu time projected) and I found that the processor really is running at only 593 MHz. I know this is some kind of power saving feature, but I'd like to set it up so that I run at the full 1.8 GHz when it's plugged in, and only does the speed throttling when it's running on batteries. Does anyone know the right settings to adjust?

(I know it's a bit OT for the DC forum, but seti is like the 4th thing I installed on here, and the only reason I care about the power settings is for the seti times) 🙂

Nevermind! I think I figured it out... Just had to do a reboot to apply the settings 🙂

2.5 hr WU times now projected 🙂

I'll probably do a little mini review in a few days when I have some more time and post it in the laptop forum. I really like to give credit where it's due and the company I bought it from has been excellent, and this is an excellent product. Seems to be crunching seti wus pretty good so far too (2:20 per wu) 🙂

Hey Silverpig!

Congrats on the new lappy! I have a new work one with a 1.6 GHz Pent-M. It does a WU in 2h03m. So, I expect yours will be faster, unless you memory is slower. Mine has DDR400 memory interface.

/edit - OOPS! I guess I looked too fast at the memory specs....this box has quad-pumped DDR, but the FSB is only 100 MHz. MY other Dell is the one I opened up and it DOES have PC32000(DDR400) RAM.

You video blow this one away. It has the Radeo 9000, but at least it has 32 MB of dedicated vram. But hey, it is a work computer and I get an extra 11 to 12 WU a day. 🙂

Yeah, so far I'm really really happy with it. The screen is absolutely gorgeous. I haven't finished setting it all up yet (dual booting linux and windows), but I did bench it at ~150 fps in Q3 at 1280x1024. I've also put out a few set wus too.

I'd really really love to make 10k wus by the end of seti classic (sitting around 7400 now I think, and this puts me up to about 35 wu/day production).
