Stop hitting refresh.

Inhale, exhale, inhale exhale, inhale, exhale...

Let this be a lesson to you: don't count your chickens before they hatch ever again. The reason for all this stress is that you applied for and paid for an apartment before you passed the background check that you must have known was coming. Sounds like a stupid mistake that's causing you way to much nervousness.

That being said, stop worrying about this silly background check. You even said that they never verified your information about your degree; what makes you think that they are actually going to do this background check?

Background checks are probably company policy.

I mean, you aren't O.J. Simpson or anything. You weren't convicted of murder, had all the evidence point you to, and then found not guilty.

We shall see, how long does it take for them to do a background check? They said my start date is July 16th..

And here is why it scares me, this is what they said in there offer......

We at Robert Half International are pleased to extend you a conditional offer to join us as a Salaried Professional Consultant in our Technology division. This offer is contingent on the results from your background and reference checks

Also, very few places actually contact references.

Most places I have worked did full background checks. For Verizon... The business that I was with that was no longer they looked even more at. Called me and wanted contact info for previous ceo and another co-worker. Good thing I had my old cell phone laying around with contact info in it.

Usually it would take them 1-2 weeks to do the background check... in my case it was closer to 1 than 2

They treat you pretty well? Are you with them directly or just conract-hire with someone else?

As stated earler...I will be a salary professional with them, which means I'm paid by them, directly.

in a somewhat related question about disclosing past issues:

if you had a possession/consumption of alcohol underage, but you were never convicted and after several years the charges were expunged from the record, is it still a good idea to tell them up front about something like that?

I'm guessing they only care about charges that would show a propensity for violence or theft, ie assault, shoplifting, burglary, etc. They wouldn't have much of a workforce if they cared about drinking and partying.
