Anyways they offered me the position and they are doing my background check - I submitted it to them however, here's what scares me.

6 years ago I got a minor consuming, and 3 years ago I got a driving under suspension (non drinking, I forgot to pay a ticket, big mess but I got my license back right away obviously)

I have no felonies, but both of those are considered misdameanors, are they not going to hire me because of that?

Also, 2 of my employers on my resume are not in business anymore, however I got my old managers contact info from 1 of those companies and he will provide ref, as for the other one - all I got are some old paychecks, not all of them but a few.

I would just hate to lose this offer because of me being a dumb college kid.

You'll be fine. The minor consuming will not even show up in a standard background check.

Well the crappy deal is I got "Corruption of a minor" and "minor consuming" both misdamenors, since I hosted the party in my dorm room way back, and there were other minors there. Tell me how that works, but I dont want to lose this position!

I had one done a while ago for employment screening and they did:

SSN Trace - looks for aliases and previous residences
Nationwide Wants and Warrants Search
National Criminal File Search
Drivers License Verification
Criminal Searches for all local counties
Patriot Act Search - ??

I had a few misdemeanors too and I passed everything. You'll be fine.

I did more research on my charge of corruption of a minor, and it's very VERY broad. It almost seems like there are sexual things related to it as well, like it could happen if you A) Give a minor some drinks/drugs

B) Have sexual relations with a minor

C) Show them illegal material

I fell in the A Category since I technically hosted the party and had drinks there, but anyways - I dont know how THOROUGH there background check is

The company is Robert Half Technology - they do contract work - www.rht.com for IT professionals, and I will be working directly for them - so I imagine there HR team is quite decent since they deal with new IT professional all the time, I do NOT want to lose this position, I already put a deposit down on a new place in minneapolis ( I am relocating) and would be VERY screwed.

Most likely you will be just fine and all they want to do is find out if you are a felon. Even then they may still hire you depending on what the felony is lol. The only case that I can think of where they may not hire you is if they need you to apply for a government clearance after you get the job. If they feel that you may not get cleared then they may not hire you since it costs so much to apply for a clearance and they do not want to chance wasting the money.

Basically if something comes up - will they ask me for information or to elaborate so I can at least have a chance to explain myself, or will they just say, ooops theres a blip - we will retract our offer.

When I interviewed with these people they tried placing me with other clients of theres, and I got offers - but they REALLY liked me I think, hence hwy they just wanted to take m on directly to them.

I haven't yet told my current employer yet either that I took this position, until this is done, cuz I got a feeling when I put my 2 weeks in, they'll just say go ahead and leave today, they like me, but I don't think they'll be enthusiastic AT all about me leaving.

The only reason whY I left them is Im getting paid almost 80% more in a bigger city with only a 30% higher cost of living...it just made sense to me.

My employer had a DoD background check done on me, but as I don't have anything but a couple of tickets on my record it probably doesn't comfort you much.

Well I'm still paying for my old driver under suspension ticket (WAY expensive for something ridiciulously sutpid) and they said I have no outstanding warrants for my arrest...I know I sound crazy cuz if I did - you think the police would a came knocking to my door. But, I really get nervous and anxious about this shit.

Unless you lied and said you didn't have those things on your record, then I doubt they'll care much.

I didn't lie I even told them I ahd those things on my record, actually just now - and the account executive - the guy who hired me said it shouldnt be a big deal, but its not up to him.

Also side note - I went to a community college - and you know what's weird, NOT ONE time (Cuz I know everyone that works there) has an employer verified my education for my AAS degree. Why is that? Why wouldnt they check that up? Cuz theoretically someone could just lie and say they have an education but they dont, which makes me feel...cheated lol, ( I know its not a bachelors, but hey, its what I could afford at the time)

I have a TS clearance and have a bunch of misdeamor tickets on my record. As long as you tell them truth they really dont care. They only care when you lie because then they start to wonder what else you are hiding.

What kind of job are you applying for anyway? I really don't think you have much to worry about even if it's government related.

They wont come knocking on your door if you have a warrent for your arrest because of a ticket. They will arrest you if you get pulled over.

What do you mean by that? They said I didn't have a warrant, that I just had to continue my payment for the fine - I missed it one month and they said, no big deal....Like I said it was because I forgot to pay a ticket, and they suspended my license sent it to my old address (which was my fault since I Didnt change my address on my drivers license I know) and that was that....and in North dakota its a terribly expensive fine. It was not drinking related, I have no DUI's or anything like that on my record.

We're you convicted or just charged?

Big difference.

Companies only care if you were convicted.

Even then your chargers are so minor, no company in their right mind would give a damn.

You give them far too much credit. They are a glorified temp agency. The only real reason they do a background check is so they can tell other companys they run them so their recommendations are safe.

Minor charges. No big deal at all, and for the future if you are worried about stuff like this just get an expungement lawyer (although it will cost a little bit of money) and have the silly mistakes you made in the past erased for good.

That's funny, I was just talking about that the other day with some coworkers. Some places check, I'm sure. But really, if you can do the job you can do the job, and if you can't do the job it will become obvious; whether you have a degree or not really doesn't matter much with regard to whether you can do your job. We did have an employee here who lied about his education. Not sure if he was caught before he quit.
