GOT My NEW iMac G5!!

Congrats on your new iMac! I ordered myself one of the 20" models. Its going to be used, at first, for me to finish studying for my certifications and to run the Tiger and Tiger Server seeds from Apple. I had originally intended on buying a G5 tower, but I had my heart set on 3GHz after being at the WWDC keynote, so I'm waiting for the next revision.

I'm kinda curious to hear what you have to say about the reflecting speaker system, do they sound good, or are they just ok?

If you are a sound enthusiast or even someone who likes to enjoy music on a good sound system then the built-in speakers on the iMAC are def. NOT for you. But, I didn't and I don't think anyone else should expect a great speaker system to come built into a monitor that already has a built-in computer 😉. If you really want great sound then you are most likely going to have pick up some external speaker system for the iMAC G5. However, I don't feel like dishing out any more dough (I am broke) so I'm going to stick with the stock speakers which play my iTunes just fine 🙂

Yeah, I was just kinda curious to see what you thought of them. I like the fact that it has optical out...but I see it uses the same type of jack that the AirPort Express uses...does the iMac come with an optical cable for that? Hope I'm not being a pest, just kinda curious to see what'll be arriving in my box...whenever it *really* gets here! 🙂

If you picked up .Mac with it, you can grab a demo of SpiderMan 2, or the full game at a reduced price, so you can try out all the bells and whistles!

Call of Duty runs great on a Dual G4 800 with 9700Pro, so the new iMacs should get by just fine. I just wish they had the option to upgrade the video to something more substantial.

According to the benchmarks being thrown around, not by Apple, but by using xbench and such, the 1.8GHz iMac will outperform a dual 1.42GHz G4. So for people who have an older PowerMac and may be considering an upgrade, you won't even have to buy a PowerMac to get a performance gain. 🙂

My old testing machine was a 533MHz G4, so this should be a big upgrade. I wanna see how this performs compared to my 1.25GHz PowerBook for different things. I'd obviously assume it should be a nice performance increase of this guy as well.

When do the Apple retail Stores (not CompUSA) get these in stock?

I wanna play around with a display model.

Probably anytime this week, I mean if they shipped it to me already I'm sure they would have at least put up some display models in their own stores?

Supposedly Apple has them going to their high profile retail stores first, like the one in downtown Chicago, so some locations may have them.

Just an FYI, the Apple Store in Schaumburg, IL has the iMac G5's on display and has a ton of great deals in the back! I just picked up a 17" Apple LCD. Retail $699. Refreshed price $349. Display is in absolutely 100% prestine condition. Picked up an ADC to DVI converter, also refreshed, and have it hooked up to my 15" PowerBook. 🙂

Sweet deal. I don't know why everyone hates on Apple so much..oooooh because there are no "new" games for it...ooooohhhh nooooo 😛

Yeah, maybe I'll swing by an Apple Store next weekend.

wait til you get the click of death😉, out teacher had one in the room the stupid school type and suddenly it started clicking like crazy, the entire room could hear.

Yeah, I hear the whole game thing a lot myself, but I don't really enjoy games at the computer that much. That's why I invested in a really nice television, XBox, and sound system. I rather sit in a recliner and enjoy, but that's just me.

With all that being said, I absolutely loved American McGee's Alice on my PowerBook. 🙂

This SpiderMan 2 Demo seems pretty cool so far as well, though I think this game I'd rather have on my TV as well.

Exactly. They would rather be ignorant than admit that they have been wrong for so long.

I have yet to try a game on my iMAC...maybe I should go download a demo sometime soon...

Eh, to everyone his own...I really enjoyed that game. 🙂

I don't really own too many games. I have Unreal Tournament, Alice, Myst, and just a few demo games and such. I'm sure if a game came out that I really wanted and I couldn't get on a console type system, I'd grab it, but for me, I really like being able to be away from my computer for a bit. With the fact that my job is in IT, I'm a certified member of the Apple Consultants Network, so I do some work from that, and I enjoy working in Final Cut Pro (etc) as well as goof around with the Tiger builds I get from Apple, I like one part of my day to be away from the computer!

Heck, I even make my dinner reservations online! So not even eating is completely away from it! 😉
