You said it, posting from my Inspiron E1505 with truelife LCD, 9 cell battery, core duo cpu, and CDRW/Dvd combo for $770 shipped ($602off + free ship + stupid tax in PA).

:thumbsup::beer:

Now i just need my other 512MB of ram from newegg to get here that i paid $41 for (dell wanted $100 to unscrew 2 screws and pop it in, had it only been like $10 extra i prolly woulda gone for it).

Yeah, I saw that $299 rig on day 1 and thought, heck, there'll be a better deal come day 10. D'oh!

I picked up a 1 GB kit from the FS forum here to throw in this system over the weekend, brings the total system cost to $430 which is well worth it considering that my sweepstakes/contest wins paid for the system :D

your friend fails at life.
The last lugnut who posted here with that problem, had cleverly gone in and started deleting "junk" from the OS that shipped with the system. Apparently, some people are better off leaving well enough alone!

Thus far the system is mannerly and I'll add/remove programs after I get my ram upgrade installed and my new desk set up :)

i'll have to recommend a dell to a friend and then convince him that wiping out his drive clean is the best way to start (and then introduce the dell decrapify just to see if it works :laugh: )

Have him order the XP reinstallation cd for an extra $10, rather than the default PC Restore disc by Symantec.

I would low level format, then install xp from scratch myself...after that turn off themes and set everything to classic. that thing will smoke!

that's what I did. As it is, the only problem I have with preinstalled software is the irritating habit they have of enabling the applications to load at startup. Going in and fixing that speeds the system up considerably. I want to use my computers, not spend all sorts of time reformating/reinstalling the OS.

I got my new E510 today.

One thing I am NOT happy about is that you must use Right Angle SATA connectors to connect an additional drive.

Why exactly would you waste time with a low-level format?

After a longer review ive determined that i hate XP with the fire of a thousand suns and want win2k back.

Other than that, its now running great with everything uninstalled, and the registry cleaned up a bit.

Now if i could figure out why my DSL (which has been reliable for the last 4 years) has suddenly gone way downhill. Ill be set.

:thumbsup:

Dell do nice systems but I like to build my own and know what parts I have put in it myself. Costs more but hey I like my parts :)
