Got mine the other day. I'm using it on PS/2 interface, and in the mouse software I set the PS/2 report rate to 80. I'm running desktop at 1600x1200 and it is super smooth. As long as mainboards have a PS/2 port, I'm using that instead of using up a USB port. The only minor problem I've noticed, is that if you lift the mouse up to rearrange it on the mousepad, the cursor will sometimes start jittering. After a few seconds, it seems to fix itself. This only happened to me a couple times. It may be because my mousepad has a very dark blue "outer-space" pattern on it. My mousepad is one of those 3M Percise Mousing Surface. Other than that, I can move this mouse so fast back and forth, and it never skips. I also have to say that this mouse could be a little bigger yet. I have big hands and replaced a Logitech Mouseman which is a lot bigger than the MX500.
Also, why cordless mice are so popular today is beyond me. I didn't want to mess with charging batteries. Besides, you still have to have that stupid charger sitting right in front of the mouse so it can get the signal. Maybe if I used my computer as a home entertainment system and had it in my living room, I would buy a cordless mouse/keyboard. Otherwise cordless devices I have to laugh at. ahahahahaha!
I'm confused a bit by a couple of your statements. One, you don't like "wasting" USB ports? I've never been wanting for USB space, with a hub in my monitor and several front ports on my case and a couple ports in back, plus each controller can chain up to 127 devices, plugging my mouse dock into a USB port doesn't exactly worry me. Oh well, to each his own on that one.
As for your second comment, the MX700 is rechargable in a docking bay. You set it in the dock when you go to sleep at night and pull it out in the morning. And that's if you use your computer 16 hours a day

If not, it's even less of a "hassle," since you can recharge once every few days instead, or just remember to stick the mouse in the dock when you leave the computer for a while. Also, the "stupid charger" can be anywhere in a six foot radius of the mouse, very different from "right in front of" as you seem to think. This isn't infrared we're talking about, it's not like when your TV won't detect your remote because it's pointed the wrong way. This is RF. It'll go through a wall if you want it to, much less a stack of paper on your desk. The charger can be hidden if you like.
Trust me, try out a cordless mouse--or at least THIS cordless mouse (MX700)--and you'll be hooked immediately. No more cord tangles, no more weight of the cord dragging your mouse off your desk, no more routing cords in complex paths through your desk so they aren't in the way of your feet, and if you LAN party, no more UNrouting and RErouting said cords every time you pick up your PC and go.
Between this and the Z-680's, I've nearly spent as much on Logitech peripherals as a lot of my internal PC equipment, LOL. And I don't seem to be alone from reading these boards. Is Logitech a publically traded stock?
