Ok my maxtor was acting weird (it would sound as if it was spinning down, then everything would get choppy, and sometimes it won't detect) So I sent it to maxtor, and they sent me a replacement. Now the replacement is doing the same thing! What could be wrong? Can this be because of my ide cable, or my power cable?

It could be anything. Bad power connector, overclocking the PCI bus, 2nd bad HD in a row, bad handling when delivered and so on...

Ok a lil more background info:

The HD is second on the primary ide chain. It is used as a drive for my backups. I dont think its because its my mobo hating maxtor. Because my main HD is a Maxtor, and it is actually older then my secondary drive. I never had a problem with my first maxtor, only the second one.

BTW, the powersupply is a 400w Antec.

To tell you the truth, I don't really remember. I do remember formatting it as NTFS, and I don't think Maxblast supports that right? How would you guys format a maxtor HD with XP?

My system is not overclocked. And if it was, wouldn't both drives have problems? They are both 40gig maxtors, although different models.
