What are your impressions and I'm sure we can all work some questions up...
Well, here's one.. Have you compared it with any other LCDs?
Right there is a few to answer so here goes. By the way I got the Black (well it's actually Graphite) one.
When I first fired it up I immediately started to browse the web. What was immediately noticeable was it was really bright. Quick adjustment and noticed the brightness was up to full 100%. Dropped it to 50% and it is fine. Very clear. This is running at it's native resolution which is as you know 1280 x 1024. Also running at 32bpp and 75Hz.
My initial impressions having owned CRT's only, was oh where did all this desk space come from and oh, it seems small but only ½" smaller screen in the Horiz and Veritical screen size than my Iiyama VM Pro 450 19".
Now I have at work a HANSOL H711 which is a 17" TFT with what I believe is a Samsung Panel. I am going to bring it home this weekend hopefully and test them side by side. My initial thought are that they seem to have the same clarity. Difficult to say without one being next to the other, but I see no visual difference.
What is your computer speed and video card? Also, have you used an LCD for desktop use before? If so, which one? What monitor did you come from before this LCD? Are you using LCD or DVI?
If you can handle Quake3, please do so. Load it up at 1024x768, NO anti aliasing. Make sure to check the FPS meter to see if you are above 125 most of the time. Play a game like Rocket Arena3, or Threewave CTF -- somethat NOT slow and VERY fast paced. Playing a game like Operation Flashpoint, or another "sim" like game, where gameplay is slow, DOES NOT COUNT.
Now tell me how the ghosting is. Usually, when people do review about games, their answer is mainly: it works, I see less ghosting. I don't want to hear that, I want as an accurate portrayal of how much ghosting there is when playing a very fast paced game.
My Computer speed and video card is as follows. I have a P4 2.4GHz(B) 533FSB with 1GB of PC800 RDRAM. My video card is a Gainward GeForce4 Ti4600 750XP golden Sample clocked at 310/680. I have the monitor plugged in to the DVI slot and have not tried using the standard anologue.
I will install Q3 and report back shortly.
No ghosting whatsoever. By ghosting I guess you mean motion blur. Ok, the only 2 games I have tried are, Unreal2 and MoHAA to test the motion blur. This is what I honestly found when I fired the games up for the first time.
Unreal2 - Immediately the colours were very vivid when compared to my Iiyama CRT 19". In fact no doubt whatsoever, significantly clearer. Ok the intro ran and I let it do so. I did NOT notice any motion blur at all in this first scene, BUT the images seemed grainy and Jaggies were apparent moreso than my CRT. Anyway, fired up a single player game. Again the colours were much better and after ½ an hour gaming apart from the grainish look and sometime jaggy appearence I did not notice any motion blur. Mind you it's not really manic game play is it. However, making a few adjustments Jaggies didn't really become an issue, not as good a a CRT but not that bad really. It was noticeable at low resolutions more obviously such as 800 x 600. So, moved onto MoHAA. Again, much the same but because the feel and look was more realistic in terms of scenery etc the visuals itself were very good I have to say. (but, still not as good as a CRT)

Vash, It is really hard to say. I honestly didn't really notice any motion blur. But i will comment surther when I install Q3, i'll take some screen shots and e-mail them to you if you like.
Actually, since this monitors native resolution is 1280x1024, wouldn't that be the better resolution to test at?
I'll do both resolutions.
When you switch to a different resolution (like 1280 x 960 or 1024 x 768) does the image have black bars on the top and bottom or does it stretch to fill the screen? Is there an option to make it not stretch? thx.
Just tried 1280 x 960 and the image stretches. No black bars. Which is good news.
I play alot of fast paced games with my CML174SXW, and at first you can detect a very very very slight amount of trailing, but after a few minutes, you forget about it. No Ghosting either.
You may be right and installing Q3 will show it I hope....hang fire....installing now....
Cheers ppl....
As a side note I asked the company to check b4 they shipped it for dead pixels which they kindly did for me. There are no dead/live pixels at all. No text blur noticeable when scrolling using black text on white background.
