Well, I knew it was gonna happen...I got my first speeding ticket...The cop said I was doin 68 in a 45 zone, but I beg to differ (it shouldn't be 45 anyways...it's 5 lanes, so 45's a bit slow)...Anyways, got some questions...1) Do I have to go to court, or can I just pay it off? 2) How much do tickets run? This is in TN, btw...

Where in TN? Nashville-Metro is $50 for the first infraction. Highway can be a bit more expensive. I had to pay $90 for 15mph over on 40-East near Cookeville. And you can just mail it in.
there are a bunch of websites that help you beat the ticket. Last week my director of IT told us how he beat a ticket and there are some crazy cops have to follow that they usually don't when giving a ticket
Oh quit whining, TN tickets are a joke. 68 in a 45 in NC means you are walking for 30 days minimum. (>15 over posted is 30 day suspension)

Whether you think it should be 45 or not, you would be best not to use that argument in front of a judge. The response is going to be something like this: "When you study traffic patterns and accident rates and road design for years, and get hired by the state, then you'll have a say in how fast the speed limit should be. Until then, what you think the speed limit should be isn't worth squat."
Whether you can just pay the ticket or not depends on how old you are and what your state's laws are. In Ohio if you're under 18, you have to go to court regardless. Otherwise you can simply mail in a normal speeding ticket (things like reckless operation and such may still require a court date even if you're over 18). The cost of the ticket should be listed somewhere on the ticket itself.

A lot of judges in Davidson/Williamson county are hard pressed to give you that option. His course of action really depends on where in TN he got this ticket.

In some states if the speed limit isn't supported by a recent engineering study, the ticket may be thrown out. But the OP would definitely have to do his research on that, and it wouldn't make a difference unless the speed limit SHOULD have been 70 mph. Best bet is deferred judgement.
i don't know about TN, but here you can get 1 ticket a year taken off by taking Defensive Driving. the DD can be done by watching a DVD and taking the test over the internet. pretty easy stuff.
I'm in Soddy Daisy, TN...Chattanooga generally..I don't plan on arguing with the judge, and I am going to pay...I've already taken DD and I'm 16...
I was going 68, but for anyone who has ever driven the road, they know that 45 is way to slow...If anybody lives in Hamilton County and travels Hixson Pike (the part that TDOT finish about a year ago), then you know 45 is completely irresonable...I do have something that could get me off...If I can find out when the last Traffic & Engineering Survey was, then I can see what TDOT put the SAFE (not legal) speed was...

Agreed.
Like some others said before, it doesn't matter what you think the speed limit is. For all I care, it could be a 15MPH limit with 6 lanes. You still have to abide. You even admitted to doing 68. There isn't much you can do to get rid of it. Just pay up.
Like I've said, I plan on paying up..I have no problem with that...I was speeding, and I will gladly pay for my infraction on the law...I just want to show how unreasonable the speed limit is...Anybody in TN know if they accept online traffice school? Easier...
Be SO thankful you aren't in NC. I got that same ticket and hadta use prayer for judgement and hafta use Cruise Control like crack for 3 years after the ticket.
