I say you just pay it. The cop is already giving you amnesty by knocking it down and it looks like he wrote the 54 MPH real infraction on the ticket. If you go to court he may just bring it up.

Try I-380. Lotsa straight sections and not too many cops. Having a radar detector is a big plus. I don't speed that much, but I was riding in my friend's car when he hit 135mph on I-380...

that was... after he slowed down, because he saw cops a couple miles ahead
damn stupid undercover volvo is what clocked him

How the heck do you see cops 2 miles away? Does he have eagle eyes? ;) So did he go to jail or lose his license over that?

You'd lose your license for 3 months for going that fast over here. You'd get something like 12-15 points for doing that too, and a fine of $1000 probably. There's no cutoff either. The faster you go, the more points. If you were going 180 then you'd probably have 30 points, lose license for 9-12 months and $2000 - $3000 fine :Q

Hmm.. I think I disagree with that. 50 in a 30 is nothing.. all the 6 lane boulevards around here are marked at 30 yet everyone goes at least 45-50 on them. 50 in a 30 could just be keeping with the flow of traffic.
88 in a 55? That's a little fast, again though, where are the 55 roads anyway? Those 2-laners in the country?
100 in a 65? 100 on the highway is no big deal late at night or even during the day when traffic is light.

Really, the attitudes of some of you people surprise me. Are you all brainwashed puppies? There's no such thing as an absolute *safe* speed limit.

wasn't there, all I know is that it was in a long straightaway on I5, that curved down then back up... he saw a bunch of cop cars ahead, some of them pulling a car over...
he saw those cops, so he started to slow down.... but he hadnt slowed enough, a volvo sitting on the side of the road clocked him
he was down to 60 way before he got to the cops ahead, but they pulled him over anyways... a couple of minutes later, the volvo pulls up....

He didn't go to jail....
He went to court, he agreed to take a defensive driving class, and they lowered it from what it was (reckless or negligent, I forgot) to a speeding ticket, and some period of probation
