Got my first LCD

Hey All,

I just purchased my first LCD (it's 2 months old, purchased from someone on Anandtech) and seem to have a couple of issues, but not sure if this is just me not being used to an LCD.

1. When I type my monitor shakes slightly, it's like the base isn't holding it steady.
2. It seems pretty bright, the colors don't seem as "crisp" as a CRT, is this standard?
3. It seems that the bottom of the screen and middle are brighter than the top of the screen, which is kind of irritating...

Anyway, help me out here, some of this I may just need to get used to, but wanted to see what people would be able to tell me.

Thanks,
Ethan

1. Don't know. I have the jam my keyboard to move my LCD.

2. Yeah. What model of LCD do you have? The glass of a CRT and the inherent blurring of it will make everything seem smoother than the perfectly-accurate pixels of an LCD. Other than that, LCDs are 99% of the time brighter (white point), but don't produce the deepest black levels. If you have a 6-bit per subpixel LCD that can hinder the rendering as well.

3. Backlight uniformity issue. It happens, but varies per unit.

1. It looks like 2 of the clips that hold the monitor in it's base were broken when the seller removed the base to ship it to me. I did some investigating and determined that this is the cause of the monitor moving while I type. If I move the monitor to the back of my desk its not as bad, but I shouldn't have too.

2. I have a Rosewill R912E. Pretty good reviews on Newegg. Link

3. OK, figured this may happen, this isn't a horrible thing, the moving monitor is the worst.

Very upset that two of the clips on the monitor base are snapped. I've PM'd the seller and hoping we can work something out.

Thanks,
Ethan

There are technological differences between an LCD and a CRT. Ultimately, nuances such as those which will be given in a thread like this don't matter; what does matter is your personal opinion and whether you are satisfied with your LCD or not. Only you can make that decision, and you shouldn't need to rely on other people to tell you to be happy. If the pros outweigh the cons, and I'm talking about only those that you yourself notice, then keep it. Otherwise, don't. Simple really. :)

Yes, I have PM'd the seller and am hoping to return it. I would be fine with the bit of darkness at the top, but the fact that the monitor shakes is driving me completely bonkers. I'm actually going to shut it off and put my old monitor back now...:(

Very sad...::sighs::
