I'm enjoying my dual core CPU from the other side of the x86 world; it's absolutely splendid for the Adobe CS2 applications (along with 2GB of RAM, but I am a demanding "advanced" amateur photography freak). I'm sure you'll enjoy yours. :)

Duvie just to give you a heads-up. Keep in mine that Asus's P5WD2 reads temps about 10C* higher than actual. On load I get about 63C* or so on my 660 overclocked on this board. On my Abit it was much closer to 51.

His temps will appear high but that is because it is off. If it is under 60C* that is a good sign.

Ok.....That is good since it seems the reports I have seen is ppl with 4800+ using the right HSF (not the BS Toms showed) were getting in the upper 40's and not 55-54 as toms showed...Looks like they both are better off them THG may have led us to believe...

That is why it is nice to get a dtabase of users and their temps to get a more accurate reflection....

One question though Sentential.....Toms was getting same or higher temps on many NF4 boards as well...What have you heard about temp reading errors there???

I have heard nothing but I shall ask. The nforce4 has far worse problems than temperature readings to be honest. The heat reaking off its NB is that of legend. Hell it puts out enought heat to make even C0 Prescott blush (and thats no lie).

I think Asus is kinda screwing up their temp sensors. The only one that I knew for a fact that read correctally was my Abit AS8. That and my NF7 were the only boards I have had that came anywhere close to what I felt were accurate.

The Asus I am using now (P5WD2) is WAY off, much like the NF7 was on D10 BIOS.

However, I promise that I will ask if the nforce4s are the same way. Dont get me wrong, Smithfield is quite a toasty little devil, but in the grand scheme of things it can be tolerable.

Toms = idiot, as we documented extensivly. He was using a A64 3000 heat sink on 4800 which is why it was reporting 55C. I've shown the X2 HSF in here they have heat pipes, copper and are larger.

And I am running a 4400 at 5000 speeds on a thermaltake silentboost. Toms=idiot !!!

I never really had a problem before, but then since I got these I haven;t tried encoding and a game at the same time. I do that on my dual opteron box, so no problem there. The 4400's right now, one is on my work box (which really only needs a lot of memory) and the other is a gaimg /lan party box, but right now is just doing 2xF@H. I can say they feel very similar to my dual opterons in general.

edit: if that question above was directed at me instead of the op. No idea how a dual-core P4 feels.

no, i apreciate that. Too bad i never had a Opteron box... :-/ Iam still trying to find out if an X2 would make sense for a new office Pc with lot of office applications (Ken DSL Server, Lexware Client), multi-tasking (but no rendering or 3d-stuff) and loads of emails (Outlook Express with 200.000 mails right now :/) and so on, lets say a heavy office workstation.

Becuzz...i could buy this 4200+ http://www.mitglied.lycos.de/Der_Streit/public/X2.jpg from a buddy at my work for bout 450Euros.

I love that PC, really. Got another 512 MB RAM and now it is even more nice.
It is so unbelievable silent even in the strange summer temperatures we have here now.
I have it running nearly permanently since i am using it for common tasks (mails, IM, posting on AT, deviantArt,website,...), i can even sleep next to it without being disturbed (birds in morning are more disturbing).

Here is prove:

To write about my feels. It is very nice close to Macintosh dual CPU now. It is amazing when you are doing some harddrive extensive work, not feeling any lag in what you are currently doing. And with windows look and feel (responsivenes of user interface) it is killing machine for work.
I can switch from hardly working external filter back to photoshop or to this web browser, and it is immediate. I have also running very often movie on the background, or some music. Before i got allways drops even in songs playing.
There is no excuse to not have dual cpu even for completely common tasks!

48c is at idle or with limited running and your cpu fan is 998rpms???

Does that rpm of the fan increase when you load it??? Maybe it is thermal control...

Can you take a screen shot of the cpu running 2x of prime of 1 instance of prime with like an encoding going on with the temps??? Can I have the task manager on so I can see the cpu charts as well?? Thanks, very helpful....

I would like to see some pics of the system too if you dont mind...case must be nice to be silent and keep this thing at 61c load...

case is not nice at all, some strange black box, but i like it.
It was not really idle, it is now converting some BW photos, so cpu load is about 20 on one and 40 on second CPU.

It spins up when there is lot of work for some time. When i am running some filter or so, it speeds up to about 1900 rpm for CPU cooler, the rest are bout 300 more, important is, that even on that case, it is still silent that when i have TV running, or playing some music, or talking with somebody or simply not focusing to it, it is easy to forget that it is a bit louder.

When i start Prime (found it finally) if it is that Mersceine stuff, i have 2x50% load showing. Temperatures are 53 for CPU and CPU fan is 1200
I will maybe end up like some PC improoving girl oh my. I am happy will not touch it :)

NO you want to do the torture test...large FFT..2 of them.....let it run for an hour or so to build up the case heat....

The reason it is nice to loop in a game or 3dmark is the second biggest heat source in our computers now are video cards...ONce the case starts filling with even slightly warmer air the cpu HSF starts having to use that warmer air to cool thus becoming less effective.....

I like to have info so I can better help the guy who wants to buy one of these....then the guy who wants to build a gaming machine with a high end or even perhaps 2 high end cards in SLI format....Yours may be the more realistic line for average users (you photo processing aside)....

You have some beautiful photographs. The "Men's Point of View" one cracks me up haha.

Oh yeah, this is about the P-D 830. I'm glad you're enjoying your duallie. I'm getting an X2 very soon :)

When you open it go into options and choose torture.....It is just running basic math calculations that help to stress the components. Now you cpu will be absolutely fine....In this case it will just max the chip out to its capacity and allow us to get an accurate reflection of temps....

I had 3 GHz pentium 4 600something for few days, than got offer to replace it.

Duvie: I will try it later. 100% cpu load i can generate easily with Photoshop.

Don't regret, your X2 is perfectly fine.

sisi20:
As for stressing components and running Prime, it's a good way to also fine potential problems that might not crop up till later after the warranty expires. Just install Prime and run two instances of it for an hour or so, and report back here.

ok i will try. I just didnt had problem with that shop ever before (also when i had some after warranty issues), and i am maybe scared only from what effort would be for me to not the pc for few days, maybe because "tortue" doesnt sound good too :).
Its like "tortue" your baby to see if it will be real man. hehe
