I much prefer my apartment w/ my girlfriend.

Living in the doorms sucks, good choice :)

Don't let others tell you otherwise- grades are priority one. You seem to have that down pat though. Making good grades in college will net you the best time of your life. You will enjoy yourself much more and have much higher self confidence and better moods. Don't skip more than a couple classes every month, IF AT ALL, or you'll be screwed. Trust me, I'm a junior and am just now figuring this out. Never underestimate the power of NOT PROCRASTINATING either! A chapter today, a chapter tomorrow- much better than the two chapters in an hour before the test.

take everything he just said and reverse it.

yea reverse that. Just find out what you need to know the few days before the test. Read your arse off and find OLD tests.

Cmon, its college. Its about random girls and partying. Everyone says they'll stay on top of everything, but it never happens. Dont take classes before noon.

Dont take classes before 3PM! Youre going to join the 4AM club like the rest of us after a week.

College isnt about grades. How many emplyers ask your GPA when you apply for a job? Very very few. You can get Straight Bs doing only 30% of the work and studying that it would take to get you an A. Unless youre on a crusade to be the best at everything you do, aint nothing wrong with a B.

To me at least, the academics in college is a means to an end. Its going to get me a job, and thats all. The rest of the time should be well on spent on getting high each and every single night.

5 guys in one room?
I really don't know. The Sawyer Hall layout on the UC website only shows the quad room. I'm not what the 6 people room layout is like. But I'm hoping to god they'll split it down to 2 people per bedroom.

I would go ahead and call- might be hard with 5 roommates (gads!)...find out what kind of stuff they have.
I was worrying about this: who uses what? If I bring my own TV and I wanna watch Friends while they wanna watch Survivor, do I get exclusive rights to the TV? I mean how do roommates fairly share things without getting on each other's nerves?

Never underestimate the power of NOT PROCRASTINATING either!
I'm screwed.

Hey i goto uc

i lived in daniels last year or something

Yeah, I know you go to UC. I IMed you a couple of months ago about advices on what dorm I should get. After you went on a tirade of how my Tae Kwon Do club should be combined with yours just so your club could be more populated, you logged off and put me on your block list.

Too bad I'm in the "very very few" group. My calc teacher told me that, and I'm inclined to believe her, engineering companies will often ask you for your GPA. GE for example won't even bother to interview you unless you have a 3.5+ GPA :(

Speaking from experience, GPA is very important for the first job and if you want to apply to grad school. Most people won't even talk to you if you are below 3.0.

Dont bother coordinating stuff with your roomates/suitemates. There is not going to be a lot of sharing going on. Bringing an extra TV never made anyone complain, but where I go to college, noone wants to leave stuff out in the living room because thats the easiest place to get stuff stolen from.

And you WILL have stuff stolen from you, most likely from your roomates friends, or over vacation. Lock your laptop to your desk.

Too bad stuff like that happens :( Thanks for the heads up - I think I'm just gonna bring junk and few valuables. Since I live 20 minutes away, I'll just stash important but not absolutely necessary stuff at home.

But what kind of stuff do I have to worry about much? Of course, I know really expensive stuff are at risk, but how about stuff like microwave, rice cooker, telephone, clothes, etc.?

You laptop and video games/dvds/cds and related players are the first and easiest target. For this reason alone you should get a desktop. At the very least you absolutely MUST put a password on your computer.

Keep in mind if you go to a school with a good IT staff, if some idiot steals your computer and plugs it back into the school resnet, they can be tracked down directly to their room.

The only place your clothes are likely to get stolen from is the laundry room, and although its rare, I've seen it....lol someone give me a place to upload to and I'll give an example....

Just keep your door locked at all times if possible. When you go to take a dump, lock your door. When you go to talk to your friends down the hall, lock your door. There is no excuse for having an unlocked door when noone is in the room, unless youre totally 100% cool with ALL of your suitemates.

Oh, and dont be an idiot and bring a airsoft gun to your dorm. I almost got shot by a detective cause of one of those. Although it was fun while it lasted. :D

As wild as your roomates will probably be, you will find time to study and most if not all people when asked, will quiet down. Unless youre so loud that you cant hear them asking you to quiet down. :D When someone comes up to your window and tells you that youre so loud playing day of defeat that the entire quad sounds like the vietnam war (heheheh), it might be time to lower it.... Theyre loud, but 12 inch subs next to their wall are great for getting back at your bastard suitemates for trashing your suite and keeping you up all night. Stealing their cardkeys, weed, and koolaid isnt a bad idea either. Like I said, the fully harmonious suite is very very rare...

Just be cautious all the time, the one time youre not is the one time you will have stuff stolen from you. If theres a party going on in your room, thats when its likely to happen. Half the people there you probably wont know.

And for the love of god, dont trash your own bathroom. Its probably only getting cleaned once a week.

Id say insurance is a waste for the most part. The insurance company will more than likely screw you over. They are not going to give you money back for stuff missing after a party. It has to be a legitimate break in when youre not there, and you can prove youre not there.

If you want security, set up one of those webcam surveillance packages.

No it does not.. not with my state farm agent anyways... they have always been amazing to me..

my bike got nabbed out of my basement... with no "proof"... (we have an outside entrance)... anyways.. there was a 250$ deductible.. so the state farm guy valued my 350 dollar bike at 350 bucks and was like.. well there was probably 150 bucks of stuff on there... so i got almost all my money back... all really because it was 350 bucks 3 years earlier.. and very used

Then you can consider your agent the exception to the rule. Hopefully youll get the same guy again if something happens.

i've had the same state farm insurance guy forevor... hes the local guy.. and really hes my mothers agent.. but as soon as i really split off by myself.... id definitly go with him. they have been amazing to us through accidents/ etc... i mean.. i was in a car wreck.. and it was my fault.. with no protection on the car. they payed for towing, and all my bills.. and all the other peoples bills.. and i sold the car totalled for a few hundred bucks.
