Got my brand new car Friday!! Updated with more pics

So picked up my Ford Fusion Hybrid today. I'll just get it out there right now, after 3 hours of driving it Ford knows how to build a damn fine hybrid car. Wow.

Everything about the car, acceleration, braking and handling...feels like a...car. Doesnt feel like a hybrid and trying to detect the difference between EV mode and ICE mode...is honestly tough unless you are staring at the dashboard. And speaking of the dashboard, WOW is the Smartgauge impressive, not only to look at, but its very functional and informative.

So far MPG wise on my city drives I averaged 51.3, 49.7, and 61.4 MPG, and my 90 mile highway trip 41.3mpg. My longtrip MPG is 46.6 so far.

Other features that are nifty are the BLIS(basically a blind spot warning system) and the back up camera screen that is part of the rearview mirror. Nice. The 12 speaker 390 watt Sony sound is pretty nice for a stock car audio. Enough to thoroughly rattle your windows and piss off drivers stopped next to you at a red light.

UPDATE:
Finally an update with pictures...sorry for the delay I've been stuck without a camera or internet all weekend, so without further ado just a couple quick pictures I snapped of the car...and I tried to shoot a pic of the dashboard but you just have to see it in motion in real life to appreciate how amazing it is.

Front end
Interior from the passenger side.
Badging
Smartgauge dashboard
Engine shot

Enjoy!

Second UPDATE 5/11/09

More pictures as requested and a couple more just to show off more of the car.

Center stack at ignition
Side shot driver's side
Rear end of the car
Blind spot/cross traffic warning indicator

The first 3 are just the center stack and a side profile and rear profile of the car...I like the taillights with the honeycomb pattern.

The last shot is a picture of one of the side-view mirrors, circled in red is the blind spot warning/cross traffic warning indicator. A little explanation. When you are driving and someone is in your blind spot this little indicator glows bright orange to warn you that someone is in your blind spot. Both passenger and driver side mirrors have one.

The cross traffic warning works the same way as the blind spot but it is for pulling out of parking spots, when an object(car, person, grocery cart) is headed towards your car the indicator light flashes orange AND your speakers produce an audible warning on the directionality of the object(using the surround sound), so left rear, right front etc. Both are very nifty features.

3rd update

So as far as MPG is concerned at this point my long term average MPG is 42.6. This was hurt by two long roadtrips I had to make on the highway. The first trip I averaged 41.3mpg, the way home 43.2mpg. Hence why my average is where it is at. As far as what will be my local driving routine. To work this morning 48.8 mpg. Back from work 53.3mpg(stop and go traffic seems to help MPG).

After work I headed up to the local grocery store to buy things for dinner(bout 10 miles roundtrip). Way to store was 58.5mpg. Back home with the engine warmed up 63.2mpg :Q :Q :Q

$27867.25 out the door after Ford A plan. I got rapid spec 501A which is basically everything minus leather seats(i hate them) and nav system(don't need it already have a portable one)

Not bad considering I'll get the tax credit plus sales tax deduction.

Is the sales tax deduction only for domestic cars or is it for all cars? I bought a foreign in February.

How much did A-plan knock it down to?

A plan knocked it down from 29950 to 26575. Add sales tax and voila. Good dealership, they dont charge fees for anything.

Good question. I'll look around and see. Also, the Ford Fusion is a foreign car, lol! 😛

Oh, and congrats and thanks (for helping the automotive industry) OP! 😀

Might be manufactured in Mexico but it was engineered fully in the states(including the GenII hybrid system which totally a Ford design, has over 100 unique patents). 😛

Anyways I've yet to show it to my father who is a Ford retiree, he's really pumped to see it, which is strange because he's always been a big truck/SUV guy

F that, "helping" the industry is what got them in trouble in the first place. Ford come up with a great product and he bought it... that's the American way. Kudos for Ford.

Saw a new 2010 Fusion yesterday. I really like what they've done with the small visual updates. Would love to look at a hybrid, but can't afford it. Congrats OP, can't wait to see the pics!

For those of us who work in the industry (as a supplier like myself), some of us appreciate helping the industry by buying new cars right now. Nowhere did I say it had to be a so called domestic as my company supplies all of them. Not every company in the US automotive industry is a douchebag!

You are both right. Ford did make a great product and I bought it. And Engineer I realize your point too, my dad worked for Ford and for a supplier back in the 80s. The whole industry is inter-linked. I may not like Toyota(and its nothing personal I just dont like their current styling), but I realize its survival is just as important as GM's and Ford etc etc.

And sure I'm a little biased to Ford but how can I not be when that is the only brand of car in your driveway for 18 years growing up 😛

Anyways, I'll post pics hopefully later in the day.

It's only May of CY 2009. The 2010s have been released already?

Soon you will be able to buy a model year three years in advance ... today!

Some Japanese cars are fully engineered and built in the states.

Good mileage so far. Will probably improve as the car breaks in and you learn how to hypermile properly. 😉 Anyway, this is apparently the hybrid sedan to have, so congrats.

Are you talking about the sales tax deduction from the stimulus act? If so, all new cars regardless of maker qualify. However, it's only for cars purchased after the stimulus act was signed, which I think was sometime in February.

Anyway, cool car. I'd get one (over any other hybrid) except for the price. Hopefully after 5 years or so they'll be more affordable.
