My shiny Nissan Maxima 🙂
I love it, it's a stick though, and I haven't driven a stick in well over a year and a half so it's been quite interesting trying to get used to it again 🙂

Love that car.

Anyone else in here drive a Manual transmission Maxima?
I have a question about shifting.
What seems to be the best RPM to hit each of the gears in?
First is kicking my ass, and until today (don't ask me why) I had no problem hitting 2nd->5th.

Very touchy throttle....is it just something you have to play with or is there kinda a guideline for it?

I have a manual 2001 Max SE. The shifter is certainly no competition for Honda or BMW, but it is not TOO bad. I find the clutch slightly finicky as well, and I have stalled it on more than one occasion, as the clutch requires more travel before engaging than what one might expect. There is no magic RPM number for when to shift - since the engine is pretty torquey, it does not seem to care much when you shift, and the engine's tractability means there is no reason to run up to redline to get good performance.

If you look at the Maxima BBS at the Max enthusiast's page, there is a lot of discussion of a "throttle cut problem," supposedly caused by the fact that the ECU is optimized for an automatic. I have never noticed any throttle-control problem, so I have not taken the car in under warranty for an ECU reprogram (the fix Nissan suggests). If your car is brand-new, I imagine they now integrate this fix at the factory.
