UPS delivered it this morning with a not-so-nice COD. My reseller here only carries Sapphire and sells them for $369.99; with a 13% GST+PST, that would come up to $418.09. The card direct from Diamond was $299.99+$15 delivery for $314.99; add in the UPS fee of $97.43 ($44.51 GST, $52.92 brokerage) for a total of $412.42. I probably could have gotten a better deal at NCIX but I had never tried purchasing a card direct from the US. It still was a little bit cheaper than my reseller so I was not 'totally' rammed up the bum.

Depending on how I feel, I'll remove my 3870 and install this one tonight or tomorrow. Gonna go sleeep now though.

And... PICS!!:D

The booklet mentions needing to use an 8pin cable for Overdrive but, like my 3870, this card has only two 6pin connectors. The booklet must be generic.

Nice pics.

Holy brokerage fees rape :(

You coulda gotten a GTX 280 for that price.

My policy on getting items from the US...if it can't be shipped via USPS, it's not worth it (since brokerage is always nightmarish on all but USPS)...

yeah he could have gotten a GTX280 but in every review I have seen of the 1 gig hd4870, it has pretty much been a wash between the 2. Me personally would rather have the hd4870... underdog ftw!

The vid cards I've owned so far are

Diamond Viper 770
Sapphire Radeon 64
Sapphire Radeon 9500 Pro
Sapphire Radeon 1900XTX
Diamond Radeon 3870 Ruby Edition (820/1200 default)

So... I do like ATI.

Now I have to sell some books and stuff to get an E8600 with proper RAM and ASUS mobo to drive this baby. Then I'll be set for another two/three years.

You should see all my HW - X2 +4870, and a big Thermalright CPU cooler - just *crammed* into an old Aspire X-Gamer mid tower - i has to move the side case fan to the OUTSIDE of my case
:Q

i cannot use all my Sata ports andin some places there is a single mm of clearance
- yet it ran cool with 2900xt CF; tolerable with 4870x3 CF if my room is cool
--Maybe i should post pics :p

And what do you mean by this?

Sometimes enough speed is just enough.

i can't relate

They did not have it listed when I ordered mine. Plus having never ordered from the US, I knew nothing of brokerage fees. Looks like computer parts aren't covered under free trade (NAFTA). Now I know.

But you can only blame yourself for not doing enough research. Next time come out and ask before you buy. DirectCanada belongs to NCIX and so does NXsource. Either way you live only once so enjoy you new killer video card, cheers.

One answer hmm too big, even 260 wont fit in my case unless I remove one of my working IDE cables,I know it can be an issue for some people depending on case/motherboard,anyway nothing wrong with AMD/ATi ;).

Seriously those brokerage fees are ridiculous. I got a $65 brokerage fee on something that cost $250 and vowed never to have anything shipped to me from the US by UPS or FedEx. Even if your local reseller (I'm guessing in Ontario?) sold it for about the same, you can get computer parts for much cheaper even with shipping if you bought from NCIX or DirectCanada (live and learn though I guess). I used to live in Toronto and even then I still had comp parts shipped from NCIX cause I knew the taxes and prices in general in Ontario were higher.

You still have IDE?
:Q
--make some room inside your case with SATA :p

The 4870X2 is a little bigger than the 280GTX .. you should see my X2 jammed into my Aspire X-gamer [little mid-tower with the side case fan outside the case!] in CF-x3 configuration; i cannot even use 3 of my SATA ports

Can we agree that there is nothing wrong with Nvidia or AMD?

i have been really satisfied with my 1950p-512M/7800GS-OC/2900xt/8800GTS-640/2900pro/8800GTX/4870-512M/GTX280 and my 4870x2

You can call me a NvidiATIc now
:D

IDE for my DVD drives,I don't believe in wasting money for SATA DVD drives when I have a pair of good working IDE DVD drives ,besides it won't make a big difference in speed but will save me cash :).
