Well, my performance problems have been solved (see previous post in this thread for my configuration). Halo no longer slows down because it will no longer run!

I have played the game twice, both times between 45-60 minutes. Both times without issue. Tonight I went to launch the game for the 3rd time I get an "Exception" screen. The game crashes on boot. Restarted, no different. Nothing has changed on my rig, it just refuses to launch now.

Anyone else experience this?

Hey Keith, I was having a problem with an exception error tonight with Halo and Cat 3.7's (weird because no exception error last night - it was just SLOW and CHOPPY). I found a couple of Halo forums through Google and followed the advice of someone there to install Omega drivers for my 9800np and it worked like a charm. Thanks Omegadrive! Go to Omegacorner and give them a try. Make sure you scan the readme (on the page with the OS-specific download you need) and make the adjustments they recommend like uninstalling control panel before installing Omega drivers, uninstalling any tweak utilities, disabling DDC, turning off FastWrites, etc.). Halo is totally smooth since I changed the drivers and followed the advice. Good luck!

Dobbie, I installed the Omega drivers and Halo started right up. WTF? Guess I don't care. They do seem to be working well in my brief run so far. Thanks for the tip!

No problemo, bro! Since installing Omega, I'm able to run with video settings at 1024x768 @ 85 refresh, everything maxed with "no vsync" checked. I'm even able to run sound settings maxed and EAX checked. The visual quality and sound are great! There's definitely some kind of incompatibility with the game and the Cat 3.7's.

I mainly bought it for the Multiplayer. If it were not for the vehicles, it would suck compared to UT2003 (or UT for that matter). Once UT2004 comes out, it'll have vehicles. Don't know if it will have some flying ones like Halo. The vehicles in Halo make the game especially in MP.

Would the Omegadrive help out my T-Bird 900 with Radeon 8500LE? It'd be nice if I can run Halo with some of the bells and whistles. But if my CPU can't handle it regardless, oh well. I can always dream about getting an Athlon 64.

Does anyone know where the Halo profile's are stored? I need to format my HDD, and do not want to lose my saved games.

I'm getting exception errors like crazy. My saved game even got wiped out! See my sig for my rig. I've tried the 44.03 Nvidia drivers and the Omega drivers, reinstalled the Nforce drivers, and still crashes like mad. Other than that the game is great :(.

EDIT: Disabled hardware audio and it seems to be running OK.

Well at first I was pissed because the game was definitely choppy on my P4 3.2 with 9500np. So went and installed catalyst 3.7 and applied the softmod and all is running fine now. I do like the game

fwtong - it couldn't hurt to try Omega and see if it helps. If it doesn't and you prefer the Cat's you can always uninstall/reinstall. Let us know how it goes!

Doobie

I tried using the Omega drives, and it fairly smoothly at 800*600 during the single player with everything on. It was still choppy at some parts. I went to multiplayer, and experienced a lot more choppiness, particularly when there was a lot of action going on. I tried switching to 640*480 to see if ig could get more fps. After I changed the setting, I started a muliplayer map. After a few second, the screen went black and my computer restarted. It happened a couple of times.

Rig:
Athlon T-Bird 900
8500LE/128MB
356MB PC133 RAM

Edit: Happened with the Catalyst drivers too.

Halo beta 1.5 would not load 2 nights ago, I was attempting to run some benchmarks to compare to the retail version. Got tired so I uninstalled it and will install the retail version with the patch a play a little tonight.

If you let Microsoft install it your profiles and saved games will be under document and setting in the my games folder Microsoft
