In human nature, there is always that aspect of us, the primative, that thrives for combat, even enjoys it. It's scary, but it's real.
It is our instinctual way of making a stand. Before we could talk or negotiate, we could bash each other into oblivion. This isn't a bad thing. Anger and rage are raw and powerful, and frankly, they are emotions that I enjoy, they give me power. But making a stand too, is necessary, not just to prove ourselves, but to maintain ourselves. Consider the quote "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything."
There is always that breaking point when we act on instinct, when we can't feel pain, and when we lash out on pure adrenaline. Feed off of it, it's powerful, but, like you did, you have to make sure to direct that power in a reasonable way.
You're never "too old" to fight. Most people try to shun this aspect of humanity, but there is that violent nature in all of use, some more than others. There is always that alpha male mentality, trying to prove ourselves better than someone else. It's not a bad things, it's something that is difficult to accept, but it's not a bad thing.
I applaud you. You're never too old to make a stand.
