Got hit by a car today

A car was waiting to pull out from a parking lot onto a busy road. I was on the sidewalk, and since he was stopped before the sidewalk (which he had to pull across on the driveway out) I assumed he saw me. Guess I was wrong. He must have had his eyes on the traffic and nothing else. So I'm walking down the sidewalk, and cross (still on the sidewalk) in front of his car. When a break in traffic comes, he hits the gas without looking forward and plows right into me. Since there was not much space between us, he wasn't going very fast yet, but it still knocked me on my ass.

I was (am) completely fine; honestly I'm sure the driver was far more freaked out than I was, haha. Another pedestrian coming the other way sure was pissed on my behalf, though. After making sure I was alright, he laid into the driver with a line of words that would make Tony Soprano cringe. :) Didn't affect my day much, though, really. I continued on about my business. At most, I think I'll have a bruise.

So, how was your day?

When I was in like 4th grade, I went between the two school buses (they were parked loading people on with their stop signs swung out) and went to cross the street. Well apparently some lady in a minivan didn't know that you're supposed to stop and she hit me. Not sure how fast she was going but it only kinda pushed me over a bit. Needless to say it freaked her out something awful. Didn't really faze me, I just got a bruise on my arm.

Wow glad you're okay. I'm not sure what it feels like to get hit by a car. I was crossing the street once. I looked down the street and there was a car coming from fairly far away - but it was a red light for him so I figured he'd stop. I keep looking ahead and cross the street - then I hear a screeching noise. I look to my side and the guy had run the red and had stopped literally inches from me. I was in 10th grade probably at this time. The guy didn't say a word, and I continued on my way.

Something very similar happened to me when I was 11 years old (only I was on a pushbike) and the lady that hit me felt so bad it was kind of amusing. I was completely fine but she felt terrible.

yup better safe than sorry.

I do notice that pedestrians (especially those with kids) always make sure you have eye contact with each other before they cross. Or the driver is supposed to signal to them to cross either way to ensure it.

Similar thing happened to my Grandmother. She was the driver though. She's pretty sure she never hit the other person (they faked it), and certainly there weren't any noticible injuries. Still, the other person took it to court and eventually settled w/ the insurance company.

I'm not saying who's right and who's wrong, as I really don't know what happened.

All that said, you missed out on a big pay-day.... but at least you have your integrity.

Are you one of those people who doesn't increase speed when you're blocking the path of cars?

i was hit by a car when i was younger (and on my birthday) but I wasn't quite as lucky as you, and wouldn't have been able to type about it afterwards, because i was flown in a helicopter to childrens hospital.

glad you are okay though!
